Smart move and an original chambering. Don’t overlook the .45-110 and .45-100. I had a .45-100 and it was one of the most accurate Shilohs I have owned. Should have kept that one. .45-70 is good and easy to work with and you can always lengthen the chamber later if you want to try the .45-90, -100, or -110 versions.

Reddog Dave Gullo of Buffalo Arms co.offers what he calls a prone model recoil shield which is about twice as good or more than a Magnum PAST Recoil pad. Not that expensive for what they will do for you...mb

When Cabela's came out with the Pedersoli 74 Quigley rifle I had to order it and I ordered it in the .45-3-1/4 (.45-120).
Yes it's a lot of horse power but I found it to very accurate. I shot this rifle for several years till I rung the chamber from a hang fire. Heard that snap followed by the boom shortly. The only thing I can think of causing this is I must have had a wet case from reloading it to soon after cleaning them.
This caliber gets a lot of bad rep for bad accuracy that is caused mostly from guys that cant control the rifles recoil. They mostly do what I call shooting in the dark.
I know what neck and back pains feel like and I have learned to tolerate them even if someone handed me a Sharps chambered in the .50-3-1/4, and they have, I would shoot it as many times as he handed me the rounds. You will learn to roll with the recoil instead of stiffening up like a wall that will rattle your teeth when you fire the rifle. laugh
