I picked up this Savage washing machine this morning and was wondering if there is a way to date it. I know a few of you Savage nuts have one or a couple in your collections. My plan is to put a plastic barrel in it to use as a beverage cooler. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Joe

A guy would have to find a lot of the old ads and see which ones matches that model. I think they made them at Utica clear up to the late 40's or early 50's, even after Utica stopped making guns.

Nice grab!

From the patents it looks like they made almost the same design for a lot of years, I think they have serial numbers.... so by you could probably get it within 15 years or so.....

First patent I saw was filed in 1923, the first spin dry washing machine. Some patents to compare it with, in the order they were applied for -

Savage could've easily adapted it to beer brewing, methinks. Rather have stinky clothes and a good glass of beer than the other way around.

Get it running, and give it to Cheryl. The technology is light years ahead of the rock and washboard you have her using now.

Make a good rotary tumbler too. Handle a years worth of empty brass in one shot.

According to an inflation calculator $94.50 in 1924 would be $1633 today.

$94 in 1924 was a 99G + 99H plus $10 left over for a lot of ammo.

People that could afford them most likely weren't doing their own wash.

I wonder if these were made in order. Yours is 25436 and mine is 17843. Wonder how many years prior mine could be. Who knows??

My washer is 36002 with Westinghouse 1/4 hp motor ES30986 - 3766680.
I have 2 washer plaques (assume rest of machine scrapped?) with 89994 and 16298. The lower number has "Patent apllied For" in different location.
Numbers 16298 and 89994 would indicate Savage made a bunch of these.
