I'm interested, will probably get one. The new SFAR looks to be sized like the POF Rogue, smaller than the DPMS G2, which is good as far as I'm concerned, I liked my Rogue. The question for me is, for a rifle that will be suppressed most of the time, get the 20" with RLGS and chop it down to ~17", or get the 16" MLGS and hope the regulator can reduce gas enough to tame a suppressed mid-length .308 sufficiently... Leaning towards the former.

I handled one in a LGS today and I am ready to get one. The one they had was already sold. I have built 2 AR-10s for family members, but never really wanted one myself due to the bulk and weight. This one has changed my mind.

One of these in a 16" version followed me home today. I will get it out to the range later this week to see how it shoots. I mounted a SWFA 1-4 on it for now, but have a 10x that will probably get mounted. Weight without scope is 6.7 lbs Weight with the SWFA 1-4 and Burris mount is 8.7 lbs. The front is a AR-15 and behind it is the SFAR for comparison. The lengths are pretty much the same, but the mag well on the SFAR goes further back in the lower receiver.

Hey scoony, what shop in our state might I see one? And, lookin forward to your report. This was in Etown guns and sporting. This was the second SFAR they got in. As for the trigger, It has about a 4 lb pull and a bit nicer then a mil spec trigger. Looks to be the same as a AR-15 trigger, but I will have to pull it out to compare.

Very interesting. It would appear that the trigger group geometry is totally different from that of an AR15. WTF? The Ruger is a copy of the DPMS G2 and uses standard AR triggers. Please expound on exactly what "appears" "totally different" in the "geometry".

You can bet your ass that I won't Guinea Pig a Ruger. What's that mean where Ruger is concerned? But a 45Colt Blackhawk, odds are the throats will not be right. Been building them for 50 years, fixing the throats has been a cottage industry for 30. How long is the Guinea Pig era for Ruger.😁😁😁😁😁 Not real damn hard to grind the reamers to a spec, pitch them when underside, And at least try to use the same sized ones for all the holes in a particular cylinder.

My first AR was a Ruger AR556. The rear of the bolt carrier had a burr that cut a groove in the face of the buffer. Contacted Ruger, sent them a few pics per their request and got a new bolt carrier and buffer. Stoned and polished the rear of that bolt carrier and used it in a different build. The buffer with the chewed up face is also still in use. So there was a QC issue, but one that was easily fixed, plus spare parts to boot. Now that Ruger is sporting a BCM upper with a Douglas barrel and a bunch of other non-Ruger parts.
With this SFAR, there is one area of concern. The gas block looks like it may be touching the inside of the handguard. Not sure if this will be an issue, but with my AR builds, I always make sure that there is clearance so the gas block is not making contact. I will get out to the range on Friday and will see how it shoots. Already mounted a ASR muzzle device.
The rifle is light enough that I can see myself carrying it in the woods for deer, even with a suppressor. I have built 2 AR-10s for family and would never consider carrying them for hunting.

Took it to the range today and the first 4 shots. Ammo was Hornady American Gunner 155 bthp. I was zeroing the scope and was not seeing my hits until the 4th shot and I noticed that I was hitting the lower right corner of the target. 60 mils up and about 15 left got it on target. This is 3 shots at 100 yards. At 300 yards, it shot about 4" group. I had no problems hitting 6" to 8" rocks at 300-335 yards. The only hick-up was when I tried some handloads that were loaded in brass that had been fired from another rifle. 3rd round, the fired case stuck in the chamber. Seems the Redding dies do not size the brass down enough for the chamber. That brass was 0.470 at the base before and after firing. The Hornady Brass was .465 before and .468 after. I have a RCBS FL that sizes down to .0467 and the SB that sizes down a little more so those dies will fix the issue. I just need to get the bolt action out and start shooting that rest of that ammo. The Hornady brass was ejecting to the 4 o'clock at about 10-12' on gas setting 1. I did not try the other gas settings. I was also shooting suppressed which makes it very pleasant to shoot with less noise and lack of recoil. I am really happy with this purchase. Call me a very Happy Guinea Pig
