The Conservative Party of Canada will elect a new leader today after a months-long race that was marked at times by high drama and partisan infighting — but also saw a record-setting turnout. To avoid a repeat of the last leadership election — when technical troubles delayed the final result until the early morning hours — the party started feeding the ballots through its counting machines earlier this week. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/conservative-leadership-election-results-1.6578329

It is presumed that Pierre Poilievre will be the new leader as no other candidate has enjoyed the level of support that he has. He alone has been responsible for the record numbers of new CPC members. The mainstream media is afraid of him and his supporters who are real conservatives and, to a large extent, westerners. If, by some fluke of backroom dealing, he is not elected, the CPC will become, once again, irrelevant. If he is chosen, Trudeau and Singh will be in for a rough ride. Here's hoping. GD

Yes, Poilievre's election seems to be a done deal. With the news from the UK taking up a lot of media space, not much has been said about this. I sent in my ballot with Pierre's name on it weeks ago.

Perhaps tonight will mark the beginning of the end for a certain political party.

The ebb and flow of politics. This has to be one of the most boring races I have seen. Everyone is expecting Poilievre to win on the first ballot. By that, I mean all of the people on the broadcast. So, they have to fill in 1.5 hrs before the ballots start coming in. If you wish to watch, go here. https://www.cbc.ca/newsIf you wish to avoid pundits talking endlessly about the same thing (to fill in time), tune in about 7PM Eastern.

Pierre Poilievre on the first ballot.
There you go. Took long enough. And his wife is long winded!
From CTV - Pierre Poilievre is the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, securing victory on the first ballot. Receiving 68.15 per cent of the vote, Poilievre far outpaced runner up Jean Charest's 16.07 per cent of the vote.

1st time I ever bought a party membership—first time I ever voted for a party leader. I think I’m not the only one!

Ok, Canadians, I am not sure exactly what it all means but it sounds good and hope you all do well with the new conservative leader. It sounds like the old one was not too good??

The old one was a waste of oxygen and took direction from the wrong advisors. Poilievre is smart and talks a good economic conservatism. We'll see if he keeps it up. The Canadian MSM is already gearing up to give him a rough ride; especially the CBC which he has threatened to defund. For now, most news outlets are simply ignoring his selection and concentrating on the Queen's passing instead. There are a lot of barriers to change and the governmental labyrinth is difficult for any to negotiate but Poilievre is an experienced politician as well as an intelligent man so he has a shot. He also has no apparent respect for Trudeau and his politics and I look forward to their interaction. As with any fiscal conservative, he will have trouble getting people to turn away from the Liberal promise of free stuff now, in exchange for a better future. Of course, there are plenty of avowed conservatives who will be wanting their free stuff too! GD

I believe most of us Canadians on this site will do their best to elect Pierre Poilievre. It’s the urban voters that hold the key to the next election. There is a lot of dissatisfaction with the Trudeau government right now and Trudeau is heckled mercilessly wherever he goes in Canada. The mainstream media will now focus on attacking Poilievre in support of the Trudeau Liberals.
If the leftie coalition holds we won’t see another election for almost two years. There will be plenty of Liberal spending to bolster their cause. Perhaps Trudeau will pay off student loans as well. Lol.

The legacy media really is bothered by Poilievre. After all, they have spent years trying to sell everyone on their version of the world and he isn't fitting their narrative. I only hope he continues to promote fiscal conservatism. He will have to drag the rest of the party, kicking and screaming. They are all too used to spending our money. GD
