For a number of years, I have used the ZviSoft app for steel info and cross referencing. It's a free app. I believe it's called Knife Steel Composition and name cross-reference database.
As an example, I had written down that one of my 1990s era Benchmade knives was made with "G2" steel. On the app, it identifies that steel, and cross references it to Hitachi GIN-1 steel.
