Any idea the total amount received over all the years by those who were residents from the start of the PFD program...??

Yes, I got every single one, and they paid most all the cost of Private and Commercial Pilot License, plus all the ratings. Alaska was throwing away dollars in the early 80's. Then the "Depression" hit.

I got every single one and I put most of them into guns. Today I, bought a Marlin 93 from 1936 in 32 Winchester Special. Probably the best investment that I ever made with it was a $25 dollar lot of comics that I bought at an auction in Anchorage. I sold four out of that lot about a year later and paid for my Master's Degree.

And they actually apply for it. You also can’t leave the state unless military or a member of congress for more than like 150 consecutive days. I lost it one year when I contracted in Kabul. I wasn’t worried about the PFD, the state tried to pull my residency for car tags and property taxes even though I maintained a home here and my wife and kids never left the state.

So MuskegMan received 3,284.00, then his wife also receives 3284 and then lets say 2 kids,

Total PDF for the family?

Taxable has income I’m assuming.

Yes, taxable Alaska has no State income tax YET! If elections continue the trend that may change

Put my 2 sons through college with money to spare by investing their PFD,s in index funds, they went to a local college.

I'd hazard a guess, you aren't the only one.

On the same note, I hazard another guess that more than one PFD recipient will drop a few dollars in The Great Alaska Bush Co. laugh

As said taxable, when both of my boys were younger and we claimed them on taxes, we were taxed about 25% by the Feds on it. So one went to Uncle Sam.

I bet that the staffed fire departments are increasing their crew strength for the next 3-4 weeks considering that free money is a curse for some. The number of OD’s and DUI MVA’s has gotta increase immediately following the distribution.

It’s sometimes called the PFD flu.

Fast food places have been known to have employees just not show up for a week or two.

And, any good Alaskan spends their PFD 2 or 3 times.

Lol. I figured there’d be a term for those temporarily rich Alaskans that buy drugs, booze and booty with their PFD instead of wasting it on tires or guns or kids college. Sheesh. 😁

I happened to be in Bethel, I think it was '77, when the oil checks first came out, it was called something else then, not PFD. The party was the stuff of legends. Bethel was dry then...but not so's you would notice. When I got back home, my check was there, I think it was only 300 bucks or so.

My kids were forced to save it with other earned money for college.

Damn if they didn’t graduate with zero debt.

They could’ve spent it on something worthwhile and still be college-debt free thanks to Beijing Biden. 😬

I seriously doubt he was dating anyone in 1977

I guess the gas station by the house decided they needed some PFD funds from locals. Gas was $4.39 when I went out this afternoon, came home a couple hours after and it’s now $4.89 a gallon. Good news, diesel is down 10 cents.

Crazy that our gas prices are about on par with yours. There was a time long ago where gas in Alaska was expensive….😬

Yeah it’s crazy. When I was down in Arkansas taking care of my mom last month gas was about $1.30 gallon cheaper but diesel was on par with AK prices.

When I get back from a caribou trip with my youngest (leave in an hour) we'll be buying plane tickets to Africa. We (my 2 daughters and I) decided the money would go towards their first safari. The deposit is in; tickets are next.

Men like you give me hope for the future. Having one’s priorities straight and using the PFD for something that will never break and that can’t be taken from you is the perfect use for this year’s return. Taking $10,000 in PFD money and turning it into priceless memories multiplied by 3 sounds like an excellent return on investment. 👍

I hope you guys have a great safari and make priceless memories. I also hope you post pictures and a write up after you return.
