Looks like the Wingmaster is going back to a metal trigger guard. And not really sure I care about his inability to run the new guns as fast as the old Express. I think his jams were due to short stroking.

I had been a little put off by the super thick recoil pad of the 870 Wingmaster but it doesn't look like they shortened the wood and stuck it on. It's got a longer length of pull than the Field Master. I kind of like the finish and details.

Looks pretty good. Don’t need one, but I’m glad they appear to be “back”.

I am an 870 fan and it is good to see they are making them again.

870 was not callled Express in 1950

True...all were Wingmasters early on.

Yes they were…. And I have a first year production one. And its slicker than ball bearing smooth

Hikerbum, one of my bucketlist wishes is an early no rib corncob wingmaster in 16 gauge. I keep an eye out at gunshows.

Too bad they didn't put them on a smaller frame than 12 gauge frames.

Think the parent of the 870 12 gauge was the 16 gauge 11-48 receiver. Those early 12s and 16s are quite trim and handle well.

I'm just hoping I can get two receivers to replace the cracked ones on my old Wingmasters. Those from the mid-70s had a tendency to crack along the back of the ejecting port.

I didn't know this was a thing until I read your post and googled it. Why do they crack like that? Seems counterintuitive. Cracks usually start from a sharp angle and these are starting from the curve in the ejection port.

Never heard of that either. Is there a time frame for that? My first was purchased about 1972.

Had a trap from the 70’s that cracked. Remington replaced it along with a new trigger group.

Eh, IDK. I've got one, a six digit S/N, and its a slick little gun. Not many know that the 870 frame was based on the 16ga 11-48. I don't think its a problem myself.

It was common with trap shooters running heavy loads. Just like the Beretta 303's had issues from heavy loads. When I was shooting a lot of competition, I saw a guy with 3 cracked 870 receivers. He loved the 870 like I do, but ran them real hot. I'll run an 1150 ounce and an eighth load and smoke them. Work better than a lot of guys tend to believe... Keeps them from cracking too.
