Freedom my fuuckin ass.

Virginia used to have very liberal gun laws. We always had open carry. We have shall-issue concealed carry. We used to have gun-law-preemption that prevented counties and cities from creating their own ordinances, but the last Dem governor and legislature destroyed that. They also passed a red flag law. Dems passed a law that all firearm transfers have to go through an FFL, unless it's a transfer to a close relative like a son or daughter.

I mean, there's lots of states that are worse. But Va does have it's issues. So whoever said Va is the last great bastion of freedom obviously doesn't live here, or they do but doesn't know anything about other states.

The biggest problem with hunting laws here is that each county sets its own regulations. Not seasons, but regulations. Like what weapon is allowed, whether or not you have to be in a treee stand, restricitons on where guns can be fired. Some counties east of the Blue Ridge just follow state law, but most set their own ordinance. Once you get west of the Blue Ridge line, most, if not all, of those counties just follow state law.

It's not just gun laws we don't like. For instance, we checked into the laws in WV and Pa. and found out you can't target shoot on State/public land in either. I target shoot on State land here all the time. It's perfectly legal and I'd really miss being able to do it. Beyond just bad/restrictive laws, I have permission to hunt private land totalling several thousand acres in 5 different counties here. 326 of it right out my front and back doors, another 400 just 3 miles down the road and 148 more 2 miles up the road. Beyond that we have 5 million acres of State land and many thousands of acres of it are within a few minutes drive in any direction from where we live. I've hunted my ass off here on both private and public land my whole life and never paid a dime for access.. Apparently that is a nearly unheard of situation in many/most states.

No need to move then. Sounds like you're in paradise.

Yeah, here public land in the east is plentiful, but spead out. I usually hunt a state forest that totals about 10,000 acres, or a WMA that is 5,000. There are several state forests and lots of WMAs. A couple of state forests are 17,000 and nearly 20,000 acres. In the western part of the state, there are literally millions of acreas of national forests. All of it is open to hunting. And there is a lot of state parks that are open to hunting, and a lot of coop lands owned by companies that alllow hunting. But the state DWR controls state forests and WMAs and prohibits target shooting except on ranges. Some of the WMAs have ranges. The national forests are closed to recreational shooting except at ranges. I think there may be a couple. The upside is there are lots of ranges and clubs. I'm a member of a club in the east and it's open every day. There's lots of hunt clubs too that have access to leased land, if that's your thing. And lots of private land you can lease by the day. And we have plenty of deer. In some northern Virginia counties, there is unlimited bag limits on anterless deer. You don't pay anything to hunt all the public lands aside from your hunting license fee, and a cheap nat'l forest or state forest permit that you buy with your license.

Hah, I'm in New York. We have some of the worst gun laws in the Country and the State is controlled by some of the most despicable communists imagineable. Moving presents a conundrum though. I'm reluctant to give up all the hunting opportunities I have here and all states seem to have their share of bad laws.

Well, my life surely doesn't revolve around it. And I've never tried to make any money off it. I enjoy it when I do it. Sometimes I score, most of the time I don't. I fully admit there are better turkey hunters than myself.

So when turkey hunters are just standing around BS'ing, they are not allowed to talk about anything but turkey hunting?
To be honest, I am glad to see this forum up and doing well. Over the years, once the seasons are over, it has died until next spring.

I never said I don't turkey hunt. They aren't my favorite and they do taste like shyt. I killed a gobbler last fall and likely will again this fall. My wife will make me a batch of her home made turkey soup from the legs/thighs and the dogs will get the breast.

This thread has lasted a whole lot longer than I ever thought it would. I think some of you need to take a break.
