There is a youtube saw guy "Dyno Joe Mods", who takes new stock saws and tunes them to his altitude, and then runs them on his dyno, and then shares the graph and printouts with you. I think the guy is the real deal. After a few years working for my son logging, I was of the opinion that the top brands were pretty evenly matched, and said so here on the fire on the weekly chainsaw threads. I was wrong. The dyno tells the real story, there are some shocking differences between brands. As one example, in the small saw category, 50cc ish, the top 2 brands of like 8 brands tested had a 12% difference in power. Who knew?

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

SK7:

Was anxious for you that you were just a Husky saw guy. The Stihl in the picture is redemptive. It's a good'un!. Chortle.

Everybody worth while makes multiple models in th 50-60cc range.
Husky makes a cheap one, a farm/ranch one, and a pro at 50cc.
Stihl, same.

Gotta be real careful with those tests, be sure you have
Chevy vs Ford
Cadillac vs Lincoln
Ferrari vs Lamborghini

Or, you can be like most. Pick the color you want to win and use their
Pro saw vs the El Cheapo from whoever you want to lose.

Stihl tends to orientate their Pro saws to a bit more torque, less speed.
Husky goes more for speed.
Dolmar, built top performance saws. Good saws, but their top end saws
were better off in hands that understood how to use them.
Guys who didn't treat them good had problems.

I'd love to run one like that. (Not that cherry one)
Certain it would get old in....5 minutes. But it would be fun.

Why did they outlaw a chainsaw?

Last too long? Start too easy? Stayed too sharp?
Yes.... epa got on them said it spun to fast , they wanted them to tone it down ...factory said nope and out of the states they went, it's lite wt for a 50cc, I took off the 20inch bar a put on 18 ...its like a lite Saber on my spruce and birch!

I know Stihl, echo and husqvarna are all great saws but this ole home lite sure has been a good one
Dad bought a home lite 240 "18 bar about 1990. Chain fell off & chimney needed repair so he dumped the gas & oil out and put it in the shed. Fast forward 24 years and he gave it to me to fix or junk. Put the chain on, gassed it up with 32:1, and it ran like a sewing machine. Just gave it away recently and got a Stihl. Old home lite didn't have enough power for the 18" bar.

At Sheetz gas stations here in PA the end set of pumps has alcohol free gas.
That and keeping a sharp chain does more for cutting than any brand.

An under powered saw just sucks all day long. Get one with enough power for the job, then buy the next 2 sizes larger.

Bought a new Echo CS4910 and sent to him for a full port job. Supposed to be here tomorrow but won't be able to test it until later in the week.
