They are dwindling here too.

Thanks for posting Barm - brought back some memories of days past!!

Sounds like a cool project. It’s nice to have options if I can’t find ammo. I hope you get it out and do some shooting with it.

If I recall correctly, there was at least one smithing company converting these Remington's to center fire, and the same or maybe a different one making center fire 5mm cases available. I think I read about it on the saubier (sp) forums.

I don't know if that stuff is still being done these days.

I managed to get out again and shoot some more groundhogs. The first hog was little and the grass is getting taller again. It is really hard to see when you walk-up on it. It is to the right of the rifle.

Here it is with me standing over it.

Here is a better look at it.

The bullet performed well.

I had one more shot that day and it was a huge groundhog with only its head and shoulders out of a huge hole in the field. I shot and it went down. I found some blood on the vegetation, but I couldn't see him in the hole. I am sure it was a mortal wound, but he got back in the hole.

This 591 5mm Mag is becoming a really fun rifle to carry and use in the field.

I thought about a Rem 5mm for a while but by the time I really got serious, they were discontinued… dangit. The ballistics of the factory R-P Power lokt bullets looked pretty good.
