I know that it is relative, but how many hours is too many on a 55-75 hp tractor with a loader?
Thanks.

Not only relative to what it's used for, but relative to which brand, and how well it was maintained.
Tractors and diesel engines were made to run, not sit and putter, or be used in short spurts.
A tractor model with a solid reputation that's maintained well, should run thousands of hours.

I've seen tractors with 10,000 hours still running great, and tractors with 2,000 hours that were shot.

Run a 1986 J.D. 7810 with 89000 hrs regular maintenance and tires, we have replaced some parts but over it's been a good tractor. Rio7

I always figured with the larger Deere tractors and IH also if they're properly maintained you shouldn't have any major issues except possibly clutch before 10,000 hours.. but that's a mighty big IF . If you don't know the entire history of the tractor.

12,000 hours is getting right up there, Generator service, and marine you can push the envelope a little. Tractor? I'd be worried. Converted to motor miles 12k is the equivalent of 720,000 miles highway service.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Neighbor has a small JD diesel tractor with 15,000 hours. Rebuilt the engine once. Still uses it regularly.

With proper maintenance 10k hours is not that scary on an engine. I’d start worrying about drive train issues.

It depends on maintenance, but I've seen a lot of tractors with 10,000 hours or more that I would readily rely on. The engine will probably be the last thing that breaks.

Turbo diesel air filter is more important than the fuel filter..
