I recently came across an older 760 in 35 Remington. It’s got a buckhorn style rear sight that I don’t particularly care for. Any suggestions on a “better” replacement?
Thanks, Ben

"Better" to me would be a receiver sight of some type. I'd probably try to match the vintage of the rifle to the sight. A Lyman 66RH would be correct for your rifle. They can be found fairly reasonable on ebay, like this one............ https://www.ebay.com/itm/393373682356

I would really like a peep sight on the rifle… but it’s an early model, pre drilled and tapped receiver, if I got it drilled and tapped for s sight I’d just a soon put a scope on it. Clearly I’m faced with a conundrum!
Thx Ben

Is the comb on your 760 low, too low for a scope? If it is a scope may not be all that great. I have Lyman aperture sights on a few rifles and I like them. I may be wrong, but I think if a professional installed your sight the value wouldn’t be lowered.

Williams made an aperture sight that screwed into the rear scope base holes, very flat to the receiver and the aperture slid on a ramp for elevation. Very compact and worked well. I believe it was the "Williams Guide sight". I had one on a 742 for years until my eyes went south. They are still available and reasonably priced $39. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1005997233/

Thanks again to all who replied.
I bought a 760 30-06 that is pretty much identical to my 35 except it is already drilled and tapped. I put a scope on it and the comb is just fine. I just really have a hankering to hunt with the 35. My eyes aren’t as good as they once were and the buckhorn rear sight isn’t doing me any favors.

Skinner sights makes a peep that I’m going to put on the 760 I just got. Will probably go with a Williams Fire Sight up front. Not traditional but more friendly to 65 year old eyes.

I have a set of Remington rifle sights that came off a 700. I'm pretty sure they are the same as would be on a pump . .PM me if it is somethingy ou may be interested in.

The one I referenced uses the original scope vase holes. Nothing to drill and tap.
