Was inquiring on if someone has ever modified a Mosin Nagant magazine so it would be flush to the underside of the stock?
Over the years I have purchased bare receivers and stocks and would like to make a custom rifle out of the parts. Not a Bubba job but a tasteful example. I have several original examples and would not modify a piece of history, but in this case they are just parts. I have never been a fan of the “pot belly” magazine on these rifles and if I was going to do this I would like to keep the single stack mag ( due to the rimmed cartridge) thus reducing the round capacity from 5 to 3 with a flush mount design.
Anyone have any pointers or seen this done before? I have seen a few examples on the web but not really clear if they worked
Thanks

I have modified two mosins to extract the [too long] 300WM and 7mmRM cartridges. I call it the "ejector override button". I also modified the magazines to fit the wider shoulders. The button is on the left side of the receiver.

Pretty good modification. ClarkM, do you have any more pics of your rifle. I think Russ Potterfield did a modification on a Mosin Nagant years ago but, I never saw how it looked when it was finished.

Hello Clark,
I am also a Mosin Modifier so to speak, I have built several of them:
6.5x54R 30-40 Krag Ackley Improved 6.5 PRC 30.x54R Improved And I have the barrel in the lathe right now for a 7x65R
I like your mod you did on the interrupter, Very cool! I true the actions and the bolt heads and I bush the firing pin holes and turn the firing pins to match.
Future builds I have most of the parts for:
25 Krag Ackley 45-70 405 Winchester

This is in regard to the OP's question, An old Gunsmith named "Reid Coffield" Built a mosin sporter with a flush magazine, It was in the gun rags. He did a nice job, He also moved the bolt handle rearward which I have also done. I am building a Mosin in 7x65R right now and I am going to have to figure out how to get it to feed or have to settle on a single shot. My 30-40 Krag ackley mosin was a little tough to get it to feed but I did manage to get it feeding well though.

[Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image] I made two of these mandrels, One for pre WW2 actions with the internal C-ring and one for post WW2 and later rec without it. The rifle is a .30x54R Improved 40 degree, The parent cartridge on right, Left one is 7.62x54R Peterson Brass trimmed to Lapua Length and fireformed to .30x54R. The one on the right is a 7.62x53R Lapua case with 10 firings on it so far.

Harry, is that a real name or a handle, like "Anita DeGroyne"?
