Those little 20" bikes with the high rise handlebars, banana seats, etc. were just coming out shortly before I got my driver's license.
Never had one, although my younger brothers did.

Use to do it without holding the handlebars, on a 10 even.

Oh man, there is a Napa store in Chico with a bunch of old school banana seat bikes on the top of the shelves between aisles.

Stick shifts and steering wheels on some.

Pretty cool.

I grew up late 70’s-80’s. A hutch Woody Itson Trickstar was the holy grail.
I had a GT pro-performer, and a Robinson BMX.
Redline, Hutch, SE, GT, Mongoose and Haro’s were the big names. Still have a vision Gator and an Alva Tex Gibson skateboard in the garage my son rides.

Cheap chink junk... For starts the weld joints are not smooth radius and flowing likes on the originals where the top tube, down tube, meet the head tube... Hard pass.

I had a Schwinn Stingray in dark metallic green when I was a kid. Rode the hell out of it.

I had a metallic gold one.
Road it until I got my Honda Trail 70 at 10 or 11.

Not going to pay three to eight grand for an old one.

Agreed. Probably a much better bike.

Well, I guess for some folks style is everything. But all my friends who had those Schwinn Stingrays were kind of a drag whenever we actually were going anywhere. Slow pigs of a bike. On my plain Jane 3 speed "city" bike, I constantly had to wait for them to catch up.

For $700, you can get something that moves, and will outlast that showpiece. But you gotta decide what's important to you.

I have that exact bike hanging up in the garage. Wife's dad kept it for her. Absolutely pristine.

Fun bike but it rides terrible. Makes a good conversation piece.
