Our club shoots 200yard fly but I haven't caught up yet with anyone that does it here and haven't been to a match yet.

Stick with standard velocity or are there good HV rounds to try?

Our club has been shooting steel targets ranging from 75-yards out to 360-yards with an optional bonus target at 412 yards. Normal turnout is 12 to 14 shooters per match...not a single person shoots anything other than SV ammo.

There are a number of guys shooting big buck custom rifles (yes it turned into an equipment race) but the guys that routinely turn in the highest scores are the experienced long range rifle shooters. Those guy's watch the wind flags as well as watching the grass and bushes. Reading the wind and compensating for it is an art only learned by in the field practice!

This has been out forth year and it has turned into an addiction not to mention great fun!

Lapua used to make a 42gr. load, I think it was called "Scoremaxx", if you can locate some of that, it ought to be golden.

SK makes LR ammo, but it’s kinda like a unicorn.

I can get that down here at the moment and have been using it - the SK Long Range Match. It shoots as good as the SK Rifle Match and is a wee bit faster, but still subsonic.


Just confirms that I need to get a new scope and mount setup since my existing arrangement only has enough elevation adjustment out to 200yards with HV ammo - the SV stuff falls short so to speak.

SK Biathalon has worked well in my CZ MTR. It has been available here in small quantities. I found it after reading the 50 at 200 thread mentioned above. That thread is a very large collection of examples to review of different ammo choices for 22lr at distance

I’ve been through a bit of that lately. 30mm is the solution, and the SWFA 10x is hard to fault, lacking only a factory zero stop. I thought I might sneak by with a Tract 3-15 with the 30moa integral rail on my 10/22 CSC, but no dice. I could’ve gone with the Burris rings and inserts and possibly gotten there, but that’s not ideal IMO, and I hope to go a bit further later. I’ve drooled a bit over some of the Tract 30s, but the SS gets it done for $300. Once I get my ammo selected, I can mark the dial with a pencil.

Set up correctly,upon a concentric rifle wearing 75 MOA inclination,the 10x MQ will grant 40 Mil's and small change on it's erector,from a 50yd zero. Hint.




10/22's require more,because spouts are never straight and gravity is a thang. Hint.

There's not a more fun shooting activity than busting dirt clods with a suppressed 22 at 200 yds. I use SV too.

At the range yesterday and it turns out I do have enough elevation adjustment for the SK LRM out to 200yds, with 3MOA to spare. I was shooting at clays in the bank behind the target to estimate the settings, not realising that in that short distance the bullets were dropping another 8.5 inches.

The wind was variable and coming more or less directly face on. I didn't make any adjustments for the wind - still gotta learn that.

Winchester 42gn PowerPoints were a consistent scatter at about 2.5MOA (10 shots):




The SK LRM did about the same overall, probably due to the wind, but had a 6 shot center group at about 1 MOA (10 shots total):

Hear hear!! Just hollow-pointed some with my Neal Waltz die, and hoping it feeds and shoots well...

I did the fly shoot and managed to get 1 fly. Most of the shooters were using 24x power scopes so they could see the holes. I had to borrow someone's spotting scope and was still a challenge to see all shots. I didn't have a light on my target and relied on spilled light from the light on the one next to mine.

Did I mention it's a night shoot? Everyone else set up a battery powered spot light in front of their target - I could see their holes through the spotting scope.

I'm torn on deciding between getting a good spotting scope or a better rifle scope. The spot light will be easy. Then there's still the wind reading skill to acquire. There were plenty of wind flags set up down the range, some with their own spot light.

The wind at the range wasn't too bad yesterday so I tried out Eley Tenex:



The 5 shots are just under 2 MOA but, ignoring the flyer on the left (must've hit a butterfly or something while travelling downrange), the other 4 shots are 38 SOA.

(The big holes on the bottom are 8mm from a Portuguese Vergueiro.)

A couple pards were 40+ Mil's deep on my biggest Vudoo yesterday and freaking the fhuqk out on their connections. Hint..............

How far is that? 600yards?
