My Alberta hunting buddie went to Africa.
After spending like the last 20 some years hunting whitetails in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
My buddie went to a Elk dinner and won a hunt to Africa.
He is a whitetail fanatic.
Has a trophy room to die for. And at least six book heads that I know of probably more.
I get this call.
Ahhh can I borrow your 375.?
I said sure.
He's borrowed it before for bear hunt .
We had a few issues to resolve on the gun.
I had the gun built about 25 years ago.
It's a M700 that was smithed by Dwight Scott.
And stocked by Tom Meredith,TM Stockworks.
No.5 Shilen SS barrel .
Answer products muzzle brake.
McMillian GP/HTG.
The scope I had on it was a old S&B 1.25x4 .
With totally inadequate eye relief.
After consulting with my friend sbertez.
A 1x8 trujicon was selected.
I like the scope alot.
I dropped the rifle off at Randy's... Accurate Rifle Works.
To have him give it clean bill of health.
It had a full length rail that was constricting the loading port.
Milled the middle away. Much improved the access to get shells in the top.
The rifle was pretty much GTG.
I loaded for it years ago. My hand loads will shoot 3 inch groups at 300 yards off a decent rest. But 250g soft points are not what we wanted for Africa.
He bought Federal Fusion ammo with 300g TSX bullets.
Off a rest it was shooting 1 inch groups at 100 yards.
Off shooting sticks he was doing 2 inch groups at a 100 yards.
He practiced alot .
He actually had a full sized cape buffalo target
Off hand .Off sticks.
Many rounds were fired.
No issues while practicing.
He should be back any day now .
I'll have more details once I get to talk to him.
Got some pictures.

Looks like a "black" impala.

Thanks guys.
Elkhunternm. I don't know my African animals that well.
Thanks
All I heard before he left was cape buffalo, sable, and wildebeest.
I guess he added a few after he got there.
Haven't heard if he added more before he left.
If I get pictures I'll post them.
I'm waiting on the cape buffalo story myself.

Definitely a black impala, no wildebeest. Congrats to the shooter.

He got some nice ones. If I was to ever go, Sable would be at the top of the list.

DF .
Yes he used it for all of the above.
Federal factory ammo with a 300g TSX.
He is back and I got to talk to him tonight.
The first animal was the cape buffalo.
Broadside at 40 yards.
Hart shot. PH did a follow up with a 416 in the lungs.
Stumbled about 20 yards and piled up.
Old timer. 43 inches on the outside.
Recoved the bullet from just under the skin on the off side. Text book TSX expansion. Looked like the picture.
Everything was close shot wise and pretty much everything did 20 to 30 yards after the shot.
The sable did 50 yards and kinda stood around and the PH had him put another one in it.
He was very pleased with how the rifle preformed .
One of the things he mentioned with the exception of the Impala. These are BIG animals.
Much bigger than the biggest deer he's hunted.
Now he's talking about a leopard hunt...

In Meadville,Pa there is a golf course with a restaurant on Park avenue extension. The Hailwood golf course.
The owner has the interior, just plastered with african animals.
Behind the bar is a full body mount Sable.
Absolutely gorgeous animal.

We went this June and had an absolute blast. My wife got a Sable with the crossbow.

If you decide you want to go, I have a great outfitter to recommend.

Congratulations to your friend……very nice trophies!

I’d probably lend mine to a close friend to use in Alaska or Africa, as I’ll never see either! 🤬 memtb
