China does not want Elon Musk to sell Starlink within China. Musk is still considering to do so as was done for the Iranian protestors.

Musk’s target is to have 12,000 low orbit satellites up and functioning by 2026. Previously stated goals were to have between 8,000 to 12,000.

Presently estimated to have over 3500 satellites up and functioning.

But China can sell whatever they want here and we keep buying. When will America wake up?

The last thing China (and Iran) want is uncensored internet available to their people. China is probably in a position to do something about it if ol’ Elon puts his satellites up over them anyway. Getting the gear needed on the ground might be tough in either place. Then again, I have a $200 satellite “leash” I carry when I hunt so the authorities will know where to find the body. I can send and receive texts. No doubt some clever chinaman could cobble something up to use Musk’s service.

Starlink sats run in low Earth orbits. They are not geosynchronous.

Which means, they pass over China already. The sats are there, any subscriptions is just money in his pocket.
