December 2001
Fishing on Lake Toho has been great with one lull during the full moon. It only took 16 pounds to win the Ranger Tournament. There were 116 boats in the tournament. The bite was early and late.
The water is up on Toho and I have been finding fish in the sparse reeds and the outside
grassline in the boat cuts. I have been using mostly shiners on these fish. The open water
fish continue to hit a rattle trap. Find hydrilla that is not topped out and under the surface watch for bait fish moving in open water. Along and about 20 yards out from the grassline. If you see fish moving use a rattle trap. When they go down, switch to a Carolina
rig with a centipede worm chartreuse.
South Steer Beach has good fish on the inside along the pads. I have caught these fish on
flukes, spinner baits, and plastic worms. Also, the South end of the lake by Partins Ditch
on the inside is a good bet.
I have also been using a spoon over heavy grass and pads. The hits dont come as fast, but the fish that you catch will be good fish.
If you are coming to Florida this winter, now is the time to book your trip. We are offering discounts for all Police, Fire and Rescue, and Veterans. So give me a call.
Happy Holidays,
Captain Chuck Matthews
