I've killed deer with my '70 Winchester M94 from powder-burn distance to a lazered 236 yards. No other changes than a Williams FP receiver sight and a Skinner post front sight. The rifle absolutely loves 3031/170 Hornady FP, shoots them inordinately close together at 2127 fps. I have to chuckle a little about how weak the .30-30 is stated to be, but my latest AR build is in a powerhouse round. .300 Ham'r, a modern equivalent to....you guessed it right....the .30-30! I don't know how many deer it's killed, but it's a bunch. Some Black bear and pigs will also testify....no, they can't. They ded too. I look at it as a damn good round for close in stuff, there's better for longer distance, and I like the rifles it typically comes in. If'n the Ham'r works like they say, I'll like it, too.

Not ever.
A hunter using a 30/30 can kill a deer, but a 30/30 on its own cannot kill a deer. Hahaha. Truth. Bingo

Bullet technology has come a LONG way since the 1890’s, that said, it hasn’t improved so much that the 30WCF/30-30win can effectively kill deer. Many will try it as a stunt, but it requires getting extremely close to the animal and competently placing a very tricky shot. Not many shooters are capable of such a feat. Better to stick with something with lots of knockdown power, like a 6.5 Creedmoor. A picture of the gentleman writing this.

Great picture and rifle.

This^. Deer have become hardened over time. Mostly due to the internet. .338 Lapua at minimum, even better, 6.5 creedmoor just to be sure.

The buck on the left was killed about 30 miles east of me with a Springfield Arms Model 840 30-30 and 170 gr Remington Core-Lokt. Bet the buck on the right died from laughter if that guy was wearing the same outfit. Love the matching slip on retard shoes they’re both wearing.

Sheeeit... crappy Rem or Win 165's in a 30-30 is about as deady as it gets, if you can hit em. When did they start making 165's for the .30-30 ? I've killed a pile with 150's and 170's but never seen any 165's. Hornady used to make Leverevolution in 165 gr.

You’d seriously be better off beating it to death with buttstock. #slowpitchunderhandsoftballstyle

You’d seriously be better off beating it to death with buttstock. #slowpitchunderhandsoftballstyle Thats a legitimate question....can a 30-30 buttstock beat someone to death?...yes, just not as quick as a 338 Lapua buttstock beating.
