Tuesday before last I was stepping up on my zero turn, My left knee cracked and I fell into the seat face first.
Not certain what happened, or how. I saw black, and stars. Numerous broken bones and stiches, other injuries including dislocated shoulder that I had to put back in. Don't remember anything close to this level of pain.
Mowed the grass in extreme pain, needed my wife's help getting off the machine, into the house.
Once on my feet, I could walk with a makeshift cane. Couldn't stand any side pressure, but walking was tolerable. Steps were bad.
Would have went to the ER, but that would mean hours of waiting $350, a painful x-ray process, and no help. Maybe meds. But I avoid opiates, and we have several types here if I need them.
Ice, elevation, 800mg Ibu's, took Wednesday off to continue the RICE therapy. It improved at a surprising rate. Worked Thursday and Friday with a lotta ibuprofen. It was unsteady, and hurt. But I made it work.
Last Tuesday I got up, watched the news and drank a coffee before work. Got off the chair and my second step there was a nasty CUNCH in my knee. Anticipating the pain I grabbed the wall and...nothing?
The knee felt funny, but most of the pain was gone. Movements that were impossible before barely hurt. Getting dressed was easy, my wife still ties my boot. I can do it, but it hurts.
Still feels unstable, pain is almost totally gone.
Anyone ever do something like this? It is unreal how bad it hurt, how much it improved, and how that crunch took away almost all pain.

It’s not clear to me if you’ve seen a doctor. If it were me, I’d see a doc stat.

Get your ass down to the ER.
In your posts on this forum you sound like an intelligent guy, but this thread makes me wonder...

Dollinbuck: Judas Priest man - pain is NOT a virtue! Get to a Doctor immediately! Nothing broken in your knee will heal itself correctly! You need the help of a "knee specialist" and maybe even a psychiatrist? Sheesh. Best of luck to you what ever you do. Double sheesh. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Seek medical attention and a good orthopedic surgeon! Ortho's become a necessary thing as one grows older. Gravity is not your friend either!

I need to see the doc in a week or so, gonna mention it then.
Simon, is there anything you know that makes the ER important after almost 2 weeks? Know I should have been looked at, but I hate docs.

Get your ass to the ER tomorrow morning at 8am. Monday mornings are slow at the ER. Or, go to a Doc in the Box. they have xray machines. Du bist einer Dummkopf!

Likely a torn meniscus, but an MRI will tell your docs where and how bad.
Minor tears can heal pretty quickly, but if it is torn off the bone you'll be on crutches for 6 to 8 weeks and eating NSAIDs 24/7.

I wouldn’t put it off either. Could be indicative of a much bigger problem.

Its no longer an “emergency”. Don’t clog it up.
I assume you are going to see your primary care doc. Ask whAt orthopedic doc they would see inyour case. Ask your primary to call so you don’t wait a month.
My “diagnosis “ worth every cent you paid for it, you rolled a edge of meniscus then rolled it back.
X-rays won’t now the soft tissue damage. You need an MRI.
Good luck.

Yup, get an MRi. It'll tell if you need to do anything from there. I walked around for two months only to find I had a bone spur the size if a penny that sheared off and was chewing up all my cartilage. I walked out of surgery a new man wishing I'd had the operation 2 months sooner.

Like others say, go to any Dr. That can see you now, sounds like you broke something off, like a spur or cap crack . I had tore everything up in knees, cow kicked me, sounded like shotgun went off, blowed ACL and broke leg, had four knees redone and then both knees replaced, never heard of or felt anything like you had, if your on it your doing more damage, got to think about Blood clots, be smart .

I guess I'm missing something......we went from "numerous broken bones" to having no pain in a couple of days?
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

Thanks guys.
My guess was a bone spur issue if it's possible.
Had excruciating Achilles tendon pain several years ago.
When I finally talked to the doc about it, and finger joint pain, he sent me for x-rays of hands and foot. Every joint had spurs.
The Achilles had been frayed, it had healed with a big chunk of scar tissue. Nothing they could do, because I toughed it out instead of running to the doc.
Questioned you all, just trying to get ideas of where I might be headed. Screwed up once, don't want to worsen an issue again.
53 next month, guess im too dam old to walk it off and tough it out anymore.
