I recently picked up a 1941 Model 71 Deluxe that came with 2 boxes of Hornady 200 grain jfp.
Load development is putting a hurt on the first box. I ordered a Lee sizing die to convert Speer 180 grain .358 bullets.
But load data is minimal.
Can anyone help me out?

You are going to have a tough time. Looking at load books back to 68 and that caliber had very limited data. The only powder listed still in production for that weight is 44.5 grains max BLc-2. For all 3 weights the powders were H450, 4831 and BLc-2.

Good luck.

Hodgdon 2017 and Hornady app both have loads for it. Dirtyharry might still have these Barnes: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/17673386/barnes-348-bullets

Looks like Varget and H4350 are good for both the 200 & 250. There’s also some FTX 200s out there floating around. I have a box of old Winchester 348 loaded rounds that I’d pull apart and sell you the brass, bullets and box if you want them.

The only reason I am looking at the 180 grain is due to the Hornady 200 being discontinued. And I have a bunch of Speer 180 grain .358 bullets as well as a 35 cal mould. If not, Hawk makes a nice 200 JFP

Also look up Fury Bullets in MI. They make a good bonded 220 gr bullet that
has a a good weight for the Model 71 in 348 WCF.
Hornady has stopped manuf. of their 200 gr FP 348 bullet. Look around the sites and
advertise as WTB. They are out there.

I cannot recommend swaging 358 bullets down for the M 71.

Start with known 200 grain loads and work up.

I hope you have better luck sizing 358 bullets down than I had. I almost ruined a good sizing die and that was after I nearly broke my arm leaning on the press handle. Some people have better luck with different lubes. I tried Imperial sizing lube with no luck. I would cast 200gr lead bullets and not mess with the .358 bullets.

Damn, if you have a widows machine and want to use predictive software go get Gordon’s reloading Tool, it’s free and functions just fine.

If you are having a problem, state what’s happening. I just got done extracting to a USB stick, opened the run file from the GRT folder. Agree to license, pick either novice or expert view or skip it. The program will open, defaults to 6.5 Creed. I now have a portable program that’s been tested on win 7, 8 and 10 by me.

Be happy to load one on a stick and send it to you.
