We went up in the hills near my house looking for Sharpies. Yesterday was the opener but it rained so the roads get nasty. Postponing was an easy decision. I've braved the gumbo before and that sucks.

I took my Lab and French Brit for the day. My friend has a GSP.

My shotgun was a Lindner Charles Daly 12ga Feather Weight that scales at 5#8oz. I loaded up some paper hull shells with #6 shot.

We got into a few singles and a bunch of six. Ended killing three. It was a fun morning. Sharpies are spooky so getting decent shots isn't a gimme. They are always on the lookout.

Gotta say I'm green azz jealous. I'm 75 and still a sharpie virgin. I hunted them a little and got into Huns; had a good Hun shoot, so I can't complain.

I still need my sharpie "break through", as a virgin. Was going to get it done with a great Campfire member in NE Montana this season and pop a couple of whitetail does with my drilling, but the market and FJB's inflation knocked that in the head.

I love the photos!

cool cool

Usually this area would have abundant sharptails but last winter took a toll on all of our wildlife. I didn't shoot the few I saw but called friends with young kids and told them where the birds were. Lately I've seen the sharptails in small flocks at several hundred feet as they migrate to the mountains for the winter. Soon we'll know ptarmigan numbers as they migrate from the mountains down into the valley.
