Hi mjbgalt, no actually shallow about 4' in the North Saskatchewan River.

Me too I am used to catching golden color Walleye, the color surprised me as well, I actually thought it was a world record Sauger!

Cheers ~

I don’t think Sauger get that big—but it does look a lot like a sauger. We catch lots of pale walleye here too but the white spot on the tail is still visible.

That was actually caught in the spring right after the ice was off the river. I agree, really weird to be that skinny. If it was a typical Walleye like the ones you catch in lakes it would have been really fat and at 32" would have probably weighed over 13 lbs.

How long after the ice broke up? They usually spawn a few weeks after. Could be skinny because she’s spawned out.

About a month, even with being spawned out you would think that it would be thicker?

I am thinking that River Walleye have a more stream lined profile compared to Lake Walleye since that are always swimming against fast currents?

The North Saskatchewan River is a very fast river, especially in the spring with the snow melt from the Rockies?

The fishing for Lake Sturgeon is exceptional as well.

Right on !!!

To the pale colour, up here some of the clay based lakes hold really light coloured walleye.

Wondering if it has something to do with the silt runoff ?
