Well, old bud that's quit hunting gave me his 45 cal Omega the other day, i was with him and recommended it to him at a LGS many years ago, i remember how accurate it was when we sighted it in, he says it's dropped every deer he ever pointed it at, iirc he shot the yellow tipped Shockwave bullet with 777 pellets.
I brought it home and gave it a good cleaning, ran a tight patch down the bore to check twist, i had never heard of a 45 cal 20 twist, researched the internet and ordered some 40 cal 275gr Fury bonded bullets with the blue sabots, will be using loose 777, railed a set of Burris rings and mounted the only scope i had lying around, 6.5-20x40 ao matte leupold, too big of course, but will be fine for now, i may have stumbled up on a real all-weather deer thumper with those long bonded Fury bullets.

You've got an early rifle, I think they changed to a slower twist not too long after they started the .45.
I just bought one from MegaVinn in the classifieds but mine is a bit later and has a 1-24 or 28 barrel, I'll check tomorrow.
An all weather deer thumper was what I was going for too and I'll start with loose 777 as well but I'll be testing with BH 209 at some point.
I'll be trying the QT bullet from PR Bullets but it's fun having something new to test and figure out.
Good Luck with your new shooter!

Thanks for the history lesson colodog, good luck with your new rifle too, this thing fits me like a glove, very easy/fast pointing, bore looks like glass, old bud really took care of it, long heavy 40 cal bullets at high speeds may have some descent reach, iirc the 275 Fury has a b.c. of .361.

Sounds like a winner Gunner! My favorite deer rifle/load is one of my fast twist White .451s with their .45/.40" Power Star 350 grain pure lead spitzer. Being pure lead, I don't load them very heavy (90 grain load) but never found a need, they punched through and anchored every deer I sent them after. I'm sure you can bump up velocity on those Furys for flatter trajectory and they'll be great!

Gunner, if you ever want to sell I'd be interested. Thanks Will do BGRS. That'll work TMitch, those 275 Furys over a max does of loose 777 went 2148 fps, very accurate, they mic .402 inch, may send them back and have sized to .400 inch as well as order another bag of them, still have 6 days next week over in Arkansas to fill a doe tag with it, maybe i'll see one.

That is a fast twist for a .45-cal ML. CVA Paramounts are 1:22". Slugged a Paramount and it is about .451" bore and .462" groove, 1:22", 26" barrel. Blows the .45-cal "Power Belt" plastic skirts on the bullets out to fit in the grooves !!!
I recently could not resist the CVA Accura LR-X in same .45-cal. Supposed to be 22" twist also, but my barrel is stamped 1:20" on the underside of the 30"-long barrel, by Bergara. Will slug for groove size and check twist as per your method.
Plenty of experimenting to be done with other bullets, so your sabot load is quite interesting. I am hoping to cast some paper patch slicks in 1:20 of about 0.442" diameter, patch them up to bore size, and use Blackhorn 209 loads appropriate for bullet weight. Might be able to Bagwell with that.
Sabot load with the Hammer "Pittman" .408 bullets might be interesting too, whatever the twist will allow. 1:20" twist in a .45-cal ML is a good thing, IMHO.
