Out with the 2002 SS Camaro I bought new 20 years ago and in the 75 TA. A lot of work still needs to be done on this 85000+ mile one owner car not counting the dealer I bought it from.

It's a 400 4 speed car. I just couldn't swing a 455 they're just too expensive for my budget. The car is slow as Christmas, your wife's Camry will probably blow it away. But when I change the differential gears out and get the carb to put the fuel out and recurve the distributer it'll wake it up a little. The lowest the rear end gears could be are 3:08s.

The air works but the heater core will have to be replaced, that''ll be fun. I also need to address the exhaust. Not sure if I'm going to patch it or completely replace it depends on available funds.

I love the styling of this car and the color solar Blue with a oxblood red interior is very unusual.

Nice!

Not my cup of tea personally...

But seeing men chase their hobbies is always cool!

Congratulations!

Gorgeous car! I’ve always loved the Firebird on hood during that era.

I love those ol' things. But, like you mentioned, an off-the-lot economy 4-banger of today will give them a run for their money performance-wise.
Enjoy playing with her.

Very nice, congrats.

The fastest I've been was in a 79 Trans 6.6. My friend's brother had it all tricked out, double pumper, midrange cam, dual exhaust. We pushed out of of the garage, and down the street for half a block so his brother didn't have time to come kick our asses for taking it.

Was your Camaro a V-8 LS-1? I had a 99 Trans Am WS-6 6 speed that was extremely powerful and loads of fun! Years ago I had a 79 Trans Am, and although there was no comparison performance wise between the two, the cool factor of the Smokey and the Bandit car was off the charts.
A couple things that will really wake up that smog restricted engine would be an Edelbrock dual plane intake and carb. Headers with a true dual exhaust system will open up the exhaust end. 4.10 gears will launch you like a rocket, but your gas mileage will greatly suffer. Be careful selecting your rear gear ratio.
I’m envious, you have a really nice ride there!

Yes it was a LS1 with a 6 speed. Pretty fast car Though there are newer cars out even faster to way faster like my buddy's Challenger Hellcat Redeye.

Nice car.

Find the funds for a rebuild.
Higher compression pistons, cam , intake/carb, headers.
Head work.

Couple grand. But a whole different level of performance.

The stock 455 cars won't touch it.

I'm coaching a guy through the finishing tuning of the car that showed Trans-Am's what road racing was all about, a restored AMX with the AMC 390 engine. It's always more fun spending the other guy's money when hotrodding!

In 1976 I was a senior in highschool and was getting ready to go to college. Our local car dealer took in trade a 1973 White firebird 455SD that was very low mileage. I took my dad over to the dealership and showed it to him. If my memory serves me correctly they wanted like $3000 for it. We looked it over and I almost had the ok to buy it until he looked in the back seat and in the rear window area right behind the top of the rear seat was a beer tap mounted. He walks around and opens the trunk and there was a pony keg cradle mounted in the trunk. Killed the deal right there even though I said I would take it out. Hindsight being what it is I look back and realized I would have probably killed myself in that thing had he let me buy it.

I remember an article either in “Car And Driver” or “Road And Track” that they wrote about the 1976 Trans Am. They talked about the styling of the car, the comfort in the driver’s seat and how you were in the cockpit of a thoroughbred race car.

Then when you engaged the clutch, it turned into a station wagon and did 0-60 in an afternoon.

It really was disappointing how Detroit detuned all the muscle cars after 1970…
