Since I was finally able to replace the M 700 .270 that was stolen years ago I'm going to be reloading the .270 and I need to add some powder suitable for it.

Bullets will be Hornady 130 grain interlocks.

So, Any favorite powders for this cartridge?

What have you got?

What can you get?

The most accurate load I ever fired in my pre-64 was 58gr of H4831 and those Hornadys. Stopped right there as shots here are close, and the extra speed wasn’t needed.

Check the Hodgdon manual. Lots of choices will get you 3000 or better, including StaBall 6.5, the new kid. Make a list of possibles and start looking. Since you are starting fresh, you might consider something you can use elsewhere if it doesn’t work out in the .270, but I’d still lean towards the H4831 if available. According to several people I’ve talked with, the RL22 is tough to find. I gave my unopened jug to a friend.

What fresh Hell is this?

4350 or 4831 have been my go to. I did have a 270 that hated 4831 but loved 4350. I also have a 270 that hated 4350 but loved 4831. Go figure.
The one I have now, loves 4350

Oh, I guess there are a few 4350s out there on the market, I was speaking of IMR 4350 as well. Also IMR 4831

I like Reloder 16 first, and IMR 4350 second.

H4831 is the perfect place to start. Either of the 4350s also. My finicky 270 shines with VV N-160, but I haven't been able to find any recently.

I just picked up some RL-23 at a LGS that I may try next.

My loads:
60g H4831-130g-Can not remember the primer
58g of R#22, Fed 210
55g of IMR 4350, Rem 9 1/2

All time most accurate loads in my Remington 700's was
140g Nosler ballistic tip, 58g of R#22, cci 250, bullet kissing the lands, shoots a bug hole

My brother took the same load, used the 140g berger hunting vld & Classic Hunter and shot bug holes.

130g Hornady flat base performs similar to a Nosler partition.

Thanks for the replies everyone, It's much appreciated.

I'm making a list of the suggested powders and making the rounds of the gun shops this afternoon.

The beautiful thing about Reloder 26 is the velocity. I get 3025 fps with book recipe and 150 gr Nosler Partitions, along with great accuracy.

By comparison, same rifle, I was only able to get 2850 from the same 150 gr bullets.

26 is the ticket with a 150 but it did not do well in mine with 130s.
