I don't know that we have any members from San Fran, Chicago, NYC proper here or if they are - haven't really said. All from places "elsewhere".

Oh ok.. the ol as long as it doesn’t affect my Apple picking I don’t care..

Find it interesting that a person questions someone’s else’s choices when he knows little of them or their reasons to live as they choose or where they choose. MTG

How, or why, would some of the things you listed tie a person to a certain place? Not trying to debate you, I simply don’t understand.

I despise California politically.
I'm not at all like these people...but I was born here.
I've lived an incredible life here.
I got married to my current wife (2nd) 30 plus years ago.
At that time she might have left with me.
Days, weeks, months , years go by.
You work, hunt, fish pH uc k and then one day you wake up and you're old.
I've lived a better life than most.
My wife is beautiful.
Has a body and face to die for.
That's hard to leave.
I've hunted all over the western United States.
I have a trophy room full of incredible things.
The pictures of my life, I really don't deserve.
I raised a great kid.
I've fought this fight with the wife for a long time.
I have things going on in my life that are extremely difficult right now.
Yet I keep coming back to 24hrcf.
I guess I am a glutton for punishment.

You know I'm not like these west coast idiots.
Thank you for that.

I suppose living under a tarp down by the dump is enticing.
I just can't figure out why?

When I first came here I was living in CA. Born in SF, raised in the first city south of SF and went to high school in SF. I lived in Oakland before moving to NYC, then came back to CA and again lived in Oakland. I got tired of the craziness of Oakland and moved about 15 miles away before I finally got the heck out of CA for good a few years ago.

I actually loved living in NYC (this was the Giuliani years) and have nothing bad to say about the city, though I could never live there now. Even in Montana, though, I ended up in one of the most liberal parts.

I'd blame my wife, but then I'd be as big a phaggot as Mrs Burns/Toot is.

I moved 15 times in the last 28 years. I'm done moving! It would take alot, and I mean alot, to get me to move to another state now. Continuity of medical care is another reason. My wife has a chronic illness and seeing her get the best care ever is worth staying here regardless of how many times I've moved in the past.

Not everybody has the option to just move. A guy with a good professional job that provides his family’s health insurance and has a pension owed to him that he’ll lose if he just quits doesn’t really have that option unless he wants to start over broke in his late 50’s. I’m 54 and tied to my job, I can’t start over now. Fortunately I don’t have to live in the schithole where my company is located, but a lot of people do.

Everyone’s situation is different. Not everyone can just load the dog into the travel trailer and move to a better state then get a great job within a week of getting there. It doesn’t work that way for everybody.

Some of them have magnificent natural beauty and recreational opportunities.

To be fair though, some folks can’t cut the apron strings.

If I didn't live in California, my life would be about perfect.

Good. No one deserves a perfect life, not even Trump and the GOAT. I almost hate you already. wink

It's easier to see, on the outside looking in, when you spend your entire adult life moving from one place to another. Difficult to see when you're in the same place for the entirety of your adult life.

"Well, the kids aren't grown yet", is a typical excuse while failing to realize if the kids are raised elsewhere odds are that's where they will stay and raise their children...Then there won't be the grandkid or old folks excuses.........

Above posts remind me of one I heard years ago (somewhat applicable, perhaps):

A British couple in their 90's were divorcing after 70 or so years of marriage.

Asked why, after so many years, the old lady replied in a quavering voice, "We were waiting for the children to die."

I'm like Salmonella, I don't spend more than 2 days a year fretting about where I live. DMV renewal day is a bitch (in Calif pickups are considered commercial vehicles, weight fees etc), a little remorse paying at the gas pump...but the reality of being 271 miles north of Sacramento, is, the further from Sacramento you are, the less the politics matter. Jefferson State is as red as the dick on a dog. My neighbors are red, my local officials are red and the crazy schidt in Sac or worse yet LA (655 miles south) is watered down so we frogs don't really notice it much. By the way, 3rd gen Californian, never been to LA, only time to the Bay Area was the Oakland Induction Center in 1964 and Travis Airbase in 1967 when I got home. I have left home many times chasing a paycheck, Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Nevada, returning home each time, by choice.

And, DeFlate, tip, don't waste your life worrying about the size of another man's balls.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.
