A lighter .416 Taylor could be patterned after the .416 Ruger Alaskan 20" barrel: A 1.5-pound stock would get this down to 7.0 lbs. IIRC, the unaltered canoe paddle weighs 1.75 lbs. The Tupperware on the 26" Taylor above weighs 1.5 lbs. High-tech 1-pound stocks do exist. Indisputably true, but having been down a very similar road with this same rifle in 404/375 Ruger, it now sits in a different stock at 9 lbs. all up total weight. I learned the hard and painful way that's a good weight in this class of rifle. BTW I shoot several 458 caliber rifles without being unusually bothered by recoil, as a frame of reference.

If I thought I'd ever have the slightest chance of getting back to Africa I'd find where you store that rifle and find a way to "acquire" it. It's hard to type with a hard tongue.

Look how a 6#12oz rifle (.458 B&M) can become a 9#13oz rifle with no change of stock: Changing the above Tupperware stock to a B&C Medalist will add only 5 ounces, maybe.

Sir Jerry is doing the holy roller (drag racer) speaking in tongues again. Glad he got a minute to send photos of his .416 Taylor M98 and some lingo I understand. Vz24 98 Mauser 24" Douglas barrel is 0.725" diameter at muzzle B&C stock all steel cerakote Timney trigger said to be a one-holer at 100 yards with 400-grainers at 2400 fps using CFE-223: Some brass made from .338 WM W-W Super: Some brass with .416 Taylor head stamp:

What a coincidence ! Same Dakota rear sight as on my Ruger, which needs a B&C stock to replace the Tupperware: The .416 Taylor and a .458 WM make a nice battery, backup for any game anywhere anywhen. And they don't kick as much as some loads do in a .577 T. rex:

LOL, thanks for posting the pics Sir, the 416T is a fine and serious cartridge, i set my rifle up for all game anywhere in any weather condition just like you mentioned, the 350gr BBW#13 solids run a hundred fps faster with RL-15 and land with the 400 NPT's at 100, that would easily handle anything, Steenbok, WT deer to Moose to Ele. That young buck loosing that TRex is learning a bit about the easiest of the physics scales, momentum, [mass in motion] and recoil velocity LMAO!!!!!

I came close to building one many years ago and the 416 Rem M70 killed that desire. Sir, if you ever sell that rifle please put me in the front of the line! I love that combo and working towards it… I am certainly new to these calibers and the 416taylor is really a cool one! If I could have found dies I’d have likely put one together! Congratulations that’s a beautiful rifle!

Beautiful rifle you have there. I have an Interarms Mark X chambered in 416 Taylor improved I picked up on gunbroker a few years ago. Called C4HD (think that’s the name) and ordered some dies. I use mine on whitetail and have had great luck with it. It has 26” barrel and I have two loads I’ve used mainly. First load is 350 gr Speer mag tip with RL15 at 2610 fps. Second load is 300 gr TSX with IMR 4166 at 2640 fps. Great cartridge that doesn’t give up very much to my 416 rem mag.

I still have an inkling to build another 416T since I have a barrel and action, but might have to put that on hold for a bit. Another Frank Wells 416 has fallen into my lap! This one is a laminate Rem Mag. Just need to sell a few guns to fund it Likely my factory 375 M70, since I'm having a pre64 custom built. I'll pay pics when/if it comes home

For some reason JES doesn't do anything in .416. I ended up using Dan Pederson with very mixed results. If I wanted another Taylor I'd just get a rebarrel. What a great cartridge it is!
