Brother was too busy to go with me Saturday. He went to TOTALLY the wrong side of the property yesterday (didn't ask me........whadda ya do with them ???)
So I text him last night and ask him if he's going out today. "At some point" is what I get. I told him that "some point" needed to be 0-dark:30 and exactly WHERE he needed to be standing when the birds woke up. That's when he stopped texting me.

So around 1:30 this afternoon, I texted him did he go out ?? He texted back he was out right then. So I called him. He was headed toward the right direction. Just not how I'd have gone about getting there, but.......... Told him to walk 5 steps and listen for 5 minutes and repeat.

Apparently he can follow instructions at times. Hour and a half later he texted me a pic. About 100 yards from where we had ended the phone conversation, he cleared a rise on the ridge and at the far end of a flat (150 yards) was a gob of birds. Probably about 25, he said.

All he could do was sit it down against the nearest tree and go to work. Hit his box call (Steve Kimble purpleheart/mahogany Cost-style) and got some immediate responses. To dispense with the entire play-by-play, 30-45 minutes later, the whole flock had worked into gun range and the first head with a clear path back to his red-dot is now wearing his fall tag.

With turkey populations on a decline how many turkeys did you guys potentially kill by killing those two hens just for little piece of meat and a photO....over a 3 year period the number would be up in the 100s. of 100s.

Before you guys jump on me about the hunerd or so hens I killed...I slowed in 2015 then stopped fall hunting altogether after noticing the decline.

I can't count the number of times over the years I've called my brother and told him where and when to be for success on fall birds. Problem has been......the "when" is always in the dark of morning. And the "where" is most always a long walk and a gain of considerable elevation. I don't think he's ever been at the "when and where" I gave him. Not once. 🙄

But, hey......... Some folks like to go about things the hard way......... 😏

It's all good. I REALLY enjoy the (few) times we actually get to hunt turkeys together. And I enjoy giving him my best advice........even if he doesn't take it. 🤣🤣

Speaking of "Better Late Than Never", reminds me of a story!

Back during the Cold War when missile silos were the big thing, the gummint used animals to respond to alarms and destroy silos.
One such destruction system was a snake in a glass box. The crews that manned the silo nicknamed the snake "Nate"!
Two armed guards walked by Nate's box one day to find him thrashing about in his box, banging against the "self destruct" lever! One of the guards drew his service weapon and shot Nate!
The other guard asked, "What did you do that for?"
"Well," the other guard stated, "better Nate than lever!"
