I thought the show was good; but, not great. I liked it enough to watch the whole thing start to finish over a few months. As a soldier I could never get past the scene where Deputy Vic, walking amongst the spent rounds at a crime scene, called them five fifty six cases. I actually, sort of angrily, said out loud "it's five-five-six, either that or you counted a lot of spent rounds awfully fast". My wife looked at me and rolled her eyes.

Shame they ended the series. It was one of my favorite.

I was watching Star Trek Discovery until I discovered that it was rife with homos (both the male and female variety) and a tranny. No hot chicks as in all other Star Trek series. Not sure why they think they have to ruin almost every show with fggotry & groids in the highest positions. Hard to find a modern show without it.

Season 2, episode 1, “An Unquiet Mind”. Filmed on one ranch I elk hunt on in Eagle Nest, NM. As Walt is climbing the hills searching for the bad guy he encounters apparitions due to exposure. That’s right where I killed a pretty, well earned, 6x6. Also ate many a burger from the restaurant in the opening scene.

Katee Sackhoff is a cutie, but lib, as expected. I reached out to her and got a Longmire cast denim jacket for my wife. They are both the same size. She looks pretty snazzy in it.

Ya, in Chicago they don’t leave guys covered in steaks tied to trees in bear country.

I tried to watch it some years back, but could not get into it. Drunken cop with girl issues, faithful indian side kick. inter office conflict and poor story line, bad acting and goofy plots.

Keep in mind that the TV series is nothing like the books. There's no Casino problem in the books for just one - and Vic jumps Walt a LOT in the books. The only book in the series that closely matches the TV series is "Land of Wolves" which I am now reading. But the biggest problem (pun intended) is that the TV Henry is a small meek man and in the books he's a huge killing machine of a man.

Johnson's prose is exquisite. The scripts, not so much.

It's a really good series though.
I've re-watched many times.
Yep - much filming was in our little town.
Walt's office was staged over on the Old Town Plaza, lots of film was shot in Santa Fe, Espanola, and the Valles Grande.
We watched it as it was coming out on TV the original time.

Read the books. I watched the whole series before I started on the novels, and the show just pales in comparison.

Try Hell on Wheels if you want something to watch.

Was a fan until the very last episode. Spoiler alert - takes a sad left turn.

Kassidy Freeman acts about as well as Costner (wooden) and has crazy eyes.... creeps me out.

Sheriff Longmire is a great character, well written and well acted. Especially since it's an Australian actor doing a damn good American accent

I spent an afternoon drinking beer in the bar that was the "Pink Pony" in Longmire back in the 80s. It was named the "Mine Shaft Saloon" back then and wasn't a yuppy bar then. The bar is in Madrid, NM.

I liked the series, despite the fact that they cast Lou Diamond Philips in the role of Henry Standing Bear.

That made about as much sense as casting Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Philips is a good actor, but a bad fit in the show.
