Hey! Are you gonna shoot the long gun match this weekend?

What’s your favorite deer long gun?

I always take two prairie dog long guns when I go out

I’m headed to the range to shoot some steel with my long gun.

Oh, you drew a deer tag! Cool! Bow or long gun season?

The media intentionally misuses gun lingo all the time. It isn't ignorance; it's to evoke irrational fear in the ignorant.

Don't know about other parts of the country, but "long guns" has been used around here (probably since 1968) forever to differentiate those which may be sold across state lines from handguns which may not.

So you'd prefer them to call it an assault weapon, or AK-14?

Anyone who says “long guns” needs a kick in the nuts

Dumbest chit I’ve ever heard.

Kinda like some woman asking if you “caught” a deer.

I've heard the terms "long guns" and "long arms" used to describe rough numbers of an armory for at least 20 years.

O'Reilly used to call AR's "heavy weapons". What an insufferable douchebag he is.

If you’re talking about sales between individuals without going through a dealer, better check that again.

Got pretty testy here a while back when we were discussing that, but the law is clear.

I am referring primarily to the signs posted on the counter at many sporting goods stores.

"Long gun" is commonly used to refer to a shoulder fired weapon. Be it rifle or shotgun.

One will see a considerable variance in terminology from region to region, generation to generation and cultural group to cultural group. The long gun or long arm term was used by my father a WW2 vet and when he was in the reserves a weapons instructor from the sten gun up to the 3 inch motor and everything in between. So he was at least a wee bit informed on the issue. It is somewhat of an archaic term but nonetheless an acceptable one.

Rcamuglia I think there might be few more things that you could get wound up about that matter more than someone using a term that is a bit of an anachronism, but it is your right to expound your opinions as and when you see fit so rock on brother. smile
