Home Forums Reloading Big Game Rifles Will the Hornady 225 CX expand well from a 338/06?

I am going to have an old Springfield rebored ( probably after Christmas) to 338/06. I have a bunch of the old Nosler 200 Ballistic Tips and Speer 200HC. I also have a new box f the 225 CX. I have never used nor read of anyone ( I haven't read "everything") using it in any caliber. Although I just finished reading Guy's 7mm Mag tests with the 150CX, thats it. Anyone have any experience or knowledge? Thanks. I figure I can get it to 2650 OK.

I'd think it should be good Jim at least to a 300 yards. Can't see why the bullet would care, it doesn't know what's giving it the boot if a 338 Win keeps it above 2000 at say 400 yards, then a 338-06 would at least do it to 300, if you get my drift.

2k plus impact velocity. Of all the monolithics it is the hardest. Personally I'd go hammers.

Well, I will end up shooting them, just to see how they shoot, but really tend to shoot/hunt with the 200gr stuff. Trying to keep the scalpel away from my old gear jamming, winch operating right shoulder! ha
