Leaving for “Almost Heaven” in the morning. Still on ten pound lift limit. I might just take pics from my stand. But, if I get Tempted to shoot another one in the eye, my buddy John volunteered to butcher it for me. Looks like I’ll have the 250R. I wanted to hunt my old friends 25-35 Ruger #3 but didn’t get the scope sighted in. I tried the scope on my 250 A Saddle gun and decided I wanted it back on the #3, and just didn’t get it done, oh well, next year.

I’ll be out in WV. Supposed to be about 10 above Monday morning. If I wanted to freeze my azz off I would have stayed in upstate NY 30 years ago….

Global warming I guess

Good luck Joe.

Joe, all the fun is in pulling the trigger. Take it easy and let someone else do the grunt work. You would do the same for John, let him do the work for you now. There'll be plenty of opportunity for you to repay him. "We shall all hang together, or we shall all hang separately."- Franklin. (Not germane, but you catch my drift!)

Good luck Joe! Been seeing some nice bucks in this area. Better than the last number of years. Old friend and neighbor got a nice 10 with his bow just a week or so ago.

It's good to have friends who will help. Several of my younger friends have said for me to call them if I get an elk and they'll come gut it for me. I can still do it myself but it's great to have friends like that.
Good luck Joe. Don't hesitate to shoot one. I'll bet your friend John would be really happy for you if you got one and wouldn't mind handling the grunt work for you.

Update, we went 2 for eight. John's son got a 5 point with his AR10 in 308, and my cousins son got a spike with his 06 bolt gun. We always have a bit of a challenge between my camp and my cousins. and this is the first year in decades we didn't stomp them. But, at least 3 of us are going back this weekend in my camp, so we still have a chance to beat them. Both 99's got skunked.

Randy, are you coming. How did Dolly Sods Wilderness go? We had 17 degrees, sunny no wind. Was nice hunting.

I saw only does. Didn’t shoot one because everything we kill needs to be deboned and packed out. Trails are full of rocks and boulders and they were covered in snow and ice. It’s a good place to break a leg and no way to get out. Treacherous. It’s nice country but hard to travel in.

Funny how you describe it. When I told Erin you were hunting there, he said every summer they find the bones of a hiker or hunter that never made it out.

We saw plenty of deer, several bucks. I had a buck chasing a doe 20 yards from my stand, on Sunday. John saw 3 six pointers 2 weeks ago bow hunting. Mark and I glassed a nice buck on the hill above the grave yard. I think we glassed that at about 700 yards. Erin saw a nice buck 50 yards over the fence on the posted property. Scott saw 19, I think he said only one buck. So they are their. Tommy doesn't go up the second week so we have his property to hunt also.
