Any of you guys have experience with this combo? I am trying to find a good load for the 75s. I shot 36 and 36.6 grains of H414 today but they ES was significantly higher than I am used.

I've been playing with the 75 gr HPBT in my 22/250. I tried 760 as I had a decent amount of it with no use so gave it a try. I was disappointed with the accuracy.
Next up was Hodgdon 4064 and Varget. Both of those gave me good starting accuracy. I am working with the Varget as I have plenty at the moment. I would like to find a companion load using IMR 4166 to use on occasion to clean the copper out.

Dennis,
I've used H 414 in the 22.250 with a fast twist and the 75 A Max, 80 gr A Max and 75 BTHP...
yet even tho the velocity spread was the highest of any load tested, the most accurate load used H 414, from 100 yds out to 400 yds. with ANY of the three bullets...
I tripped over at a later point tho... the fastest velocity and accuracy combination with those bullets turned out to be 33.5 grains of 4064, which gave an MV of 3350 fps out of a 24 inch barrel from Pac Nor, 1 in 7 twist, Stainless barrel.
Don't know if you remember when we had the Campfire Get Together in Texas at Ed Too Many Letters place, we had a long distance shoot. you won that one, until they found one target that I hadn't put my name on.. my group was the smallest. I was shooting that 22.250 with the 1 in 7 Twist Pac Nor barrel on a Ruger 77 Mk 2 action, and my load was the one above... 33.5 grains of IMR 4064 with a 75 grain BTHP....
So that should attest to its accuracy potential.

I was just reading about this in another thread and posted about filling the case full of 4350 and knocking the excess off the top and running a 75 Hornady on top of. Shot great. Lots of dead fur too. I think you can get like 41 or so grains in that case. Should run around 3000.

my post in November, once again... doing a lot of testing the fastest MV achieved and with darn good accuracy to boot...
33.5 grains of 4064....3350 fps with 75 and 80 grain bullets, out of a 24 inch Pac Nor Stainless barrel, in a heavy magnum contour, with a 1 in 7 twist...
and at the time, I thought I'd find that with H 4350 or IMR 4350.. but I didn't...
4064 and followed by RL 15 for the velocity and accuracy champs.. IMR 4895 NOT that far behind either of those powders...

Yea, 4350 won't get you there velocity wise. 4064 and varget will do it. Wish they wouldn't have stopped making 4320. It's a good powder. H380 ain't bad either. Buddy locked his bolt up and welded a case head to his boltface one summer. Load was good in the winter. One 90 degree day he shot a few shells that had stiff bolt lifts then boom, locked her down. Stuff is hot.

Lots of good options here.

Varget is the preferred powder in my two faster twist 22-250s.

My 22-250 had a 24” 1:8 twist Criterion barrel. With 75gr Amaxes, I got tiny groups and decent velocity (3167 IIRC) from R15. 5 shot groups at 700 yards were 3-4”. I tried H4350 but never got near the precision that R15 gave me.
Currently shooting 88gr ELDs from a 7” twist .22GT. Pretty much identical case capacity to the 22-250. This combo likes H4350, giving me a 10 shot group in the .4s.
So, I’d recommend something in the R15 burn rate with 75s and something in the H4350 burn rate with 88s.
John

So at what point as for bullet weight is it best to jump ship and move on to a 6 mm?
