First of all, I would like to thank Mike (Lightfoot) and Gene (GeneB) for their knowledge and expertise in their help with my project.

I had a Savage 99 from 1952 with a Zeiss Zielklein scope and Stith mounts. I inherited it from my grandfather, but unfortunately it was stolen about ten years ago when I still lived in San Antonio. I have decided to replicate this rifle as a project and would like to enlist all of your help to complete it.

I have obtained another Zeiss scope and am waiting on its arrival.

Mike has identified the mounts as Stith and from the 1940's. I would like to find these exact mounts and I know it is a long shot, but what the hell.

I am also looking for a Savage 99 from the early 50's chambered in 250-3000. I have a 99 takedown from 1927 chambered in 300 Savage with a box of ammo that I am willing to trade for it.

Please chime in with any information, pictures, etc. you have.

Cool project. I believe there are a couple guns on GB that fit the bill. Good luck.

I've only seen those mounts in a very short lived thread by lightfoot the other day. I couldn't find much about them. Can someone post more information about them?

Rick may have more info on them. I believe he was first to ID them in an old post.

I do. One cool 99! Kinda wish I hadn't let that one go.

A 1935 RS with that same mount and scope is what started me down the Savage rabbit hole back in the 70"s. Stith started in the mid 30's and mounts were made to fit the rifle. I think the mount and scope cost more than the rifle in the 30's. The later No-Drill mounts are the more common.
