Buddy just text and is looking to sell me an early 50's Colt Huntsman, clean gun, wood grips, no box papers or extra mags. Is 500.00 to much?
I offered 450.00 but he said 500.00 was as low as he would go.

Not an authority on them by any means but I do know they are considered desirable little .22 auto loader.

No such thing as an 'early '50's' Huntsman.. Unless it says Challenger on it..... Late '50's Huntsmans had black plastic grips. $500 is a good price, jump on 'er.

With wood grips, it is post '60, or so. The 4" is more desireable than the 6".

Thank you it is a 4" barrel. I texted him and told him I would take it I didn't figure it was a bad deal but one of those when opportunity knocks kinda' things.

I need it like I need another hole in my head. LOL

The Huntsman is the budget model Woodsman. Fixed sights, non-tapered barrel, and no last shot hold-open or thumbrest grips. Slim, sexy and sophisticated......

I just spoke with him and ask him about the challenger thing. He said it just said huntsman followed by the Colt Pony.

Challenger was the second series econo-model, made from 50-55. Huntsman was the third series econo-model made from 56-76. So, as you can see, there were NO early '50s Huntsmans as they didn't start until the middle. Serial number will tell year made......

Serial # is 1749xx-c
tried the colt website serial # look up. It said # not found.

He just sent me about a dozen pics of it. It appears to have about 98% blue and very little sign of wear. Thank you for all your help.

It's a POS. But I like it....... It snaps open on its own when shot. Makes for faster reloads without having to do it manually.....grin

If you get the pistol and want extra mags Beretta Neos magazines will work. I use them with mine and are a lot cheaper than Colt mags if you can find them.
I think you have to swap the follower or floor plate or something I can't remember, it's been a few years since I did it, getting old sucks but dying sucks even more.

I had two Challengers but sold one when I needed grocery money a long time ago. Mine took any standard Woodsman magazine. I wouldn't sell mine for $500.00.

I lost my original grips, red-brown plastic. I was given a new walnut Woodsman set and installed those. The plastics vanished over the years, sadly.

First series Woodsman mags don't work in them, so that story isn't completely true.....

Just received the "Huntsman". I'm very happy with its condition. The blueing I would grade at 99%. Even the muzzle shows no sign of holster wear.
Popped off one subsonic straight into the ground and functioned fine for one shot.

Oh well oil it down and into the safe til I have time to mess with it... Thanks everyone for the help.

I will LOL. It's a cool pistol no doubt. I have to figure out some way of using iron sights. I wear dual vision contacts, 3.25 in my left eye for up close and a 1.50 in my right for distance. I can either see the sights, or the target.
