Just curious was the scope NIB? If not was it returned to mechanical zero before installation?

My Bergaras, while they shot great, really made me feel like the Remington 700, made in America, selling for cheaper, was the way to go.

Sorry you gotta deal with this PITA.

Fwiw - I put a Nightforce pic rail on a Bergara .300 PRC, put on a known reliable scope, Nightforce NX8, zeroed in three shots and promptly ran it out to 600 yards without issue. Bergara seems to be making R700’s better than Remington did on its best day.

Good idea. Tear it down and start over, without any glue. I have caught myself getting something crookedy once or twice over the years and when I got it home and looked it over, thought, “How the f*** did I do that and not see it!” Might not even find the gremlin causing the problem, but kill it with the do-over anyway. Takes some time, but not as much as sending it back.

You seriously have to see a Mark 5. The windage goes step to step. It's unlike most scopes as it doesn't do a full revolution.
I pretty much bed all scope bases that i want to stay put. This was brand new scope. Warne base, hawkins rings- all top flite stuff. I'll try another rail but Warne has been solid for me.

Placing a level over the front screws was quite a bit different than placing it over the rear screws. I decided to to try and mount the scope anyway.
The scope was a Leupold Mark V 3-18. It dropped right in so I thought I might get away with it.

It was dark when I mounted it so I didn't have a good spot to bore sight. I did that at the range yesterday. I could not get enough right windage to center it up. With the windage maxed out it was still 2 MOA to the left of my aiming point. Very frustrating and an expensive rifle.

Dude...

Dennis,

my post had more of a sharp edge than I’d prefer, so apologies for the tone.

Good luck in chasing down the gremlin.

For context, cite how many times a day you Fantasize about me,the typical duration(s) of same and perhaps what I'm wearing. Pardon mounting a scope, not being "tricky" or "difficult" for me. Hint.

Nobody thinks Schtick is smarter than everyone else on the planet, MORE than Schtick does...

No one is up to his standards, that is why he lives alone by himself, far away from society... and drugs his brain on a continual basis, with alcohol and lord knows what else... Heck even Schtick can't live with Schtick.....

Cut the little minion some slack... LoL. No one on the planets makes as much of two remaining brain cells than Schtick....

It ain't easy being short, bald, crosseyed, stupid lookin, living by yourself in the middle of nowhere....It ain't easy being Schtick....

As others have alluded to, you really need to try a different base first before moving on.

Cutters on CNC machines wear, even on aluminum. Machines need recalibration/tramming etc. every so often - just to name a few of many variables in machining. There are sometimes poor tolerances in bases. The idea of bedding a poorly machined base isn’t always enough or possible to make up for poor tolerances.

Just in the past few years on different rifles, I’ve seen poor tolerances with one Leupold Back Country base (others have been good), poor tolerances with one EGW base, and poor tolerances with a Warne Mountain Tech.

In EVERY case the exchanged base had better/proper/acceptable tolerances. With that said, obviously receivers, rings, and scopes sometimes have issues, too. I and many others have seen that, too. But IMHO, start by fitting a different one piece base.
