I presently own this rifle and am considering another upper without iron sights to mount a traditional scope. Will any brand work or must I stay with S&W factory offerings??? Recommendations welcome.

Thanks for your input.

You don't have to use a S&W upper. It's hard to recommend an upper when you have not stated the exact use. What length barrel are you wanting? I always buy 20" barrels, but I shoot mine a lot from the bench or prone and out to 500 yards. I don't like the concussion of the shorter barreled AR's and I prefer the softer shooting rifle length gas systems. I'd suggest an upper of known good quality and good barrel. WOA and Larue are good performers. As are Bushmaster, Stag, RRA, Windham Weaponry, Daniel Defense, and Noveske. A lot depends on how much you want to spend too. I'd not suggest super cheap, but some here may. Are you looking for a varmint rifle upper, short barreled upper, what cartridge are you wanting? There's a lot to consider when looking for an upper. Tell us what you are looking for..

build your own--there a lot of parts that are on super sale so its cheaper than buying a complete upper. Its also less money to stay with a caliber that uses your existing BCG---like .300 blackout or 350 legend.I just did an upper in 350 legend which is nice cause Wally world always has that ammo on the shelf.

PSA has a ton of different affordable uppers for you to choose from. I'd check out their site and see what floats your boat. Yes, you could build one, but you'll need some tools getting started out, good punches, armorer's tool, torque wrench, vise block. I'd suggest a mid length gas system. Dont try moving your bolt between uppers, just get one with a bcg.

I just like to shoot. Looking for something in 223/5.56x45. Not going to hunt with it but like to shoot from the bench out to 300 yards, which is the limit on the ranges around here.

For just shooting off the bench and having fun, I'd go rifle length 20". My personal favorite combo.
