I use about one bag a month and check it on the 1st. Morton System Saver runs right at $7 a bag here. Or did...

You must be wealthy to have water softener.

About a month ago i paid $5.50 a bag at Home Depot.

I put in 8 blocks and then a bag of crystals and that last about 2 to 3 months.

Under normal circumstances a couple bags would carry us for 2-2/12 months, we have a couple[niece/husband] living with us while they're waiting on their new house to be finished.
Two bags are carrying us maybe 45 days currently.

Haven't bought any for awhile, my tank holds 200# and that lasts much of a year. Last I bought, I thought the 50# blocks were expensive though.

I use the iron-removing stuff- usually about $13/bag or more locally .

Good reminder- I just put in my last 4 bags. Got caught short one time during Covid, and had to pay the Culligan guy $18/bag. But he had it.

I'll pick up 4 more bags today at the big box store - I like a reserve of at least 2 at all times since then. It doesn't spoil.

We buy it but the 64-bag pallet from TSC on Labor Day. This year paid $4.39/bag. Have paid as little as $2.79 in the past.

Local Menards is $6/ea.

A tip for those who might benefit.

I don't need iron specific stuff.

Our system was about 7 years old and quit working, so I tore the head apart
and found some red scum. Seemed like iron residue, cleand it all up and
it seemed to work. But the system didn't. Then I recalled a friend that was in the water business telling us about Iron Out.
Bernie recommended everyone with a conditioner regularly using some, he claimed it kept the beads clean.

I bought some, treated the brine and cycled the system, daily for three days.
And it started working.

Since then, I put about a tablespoon on top of every block as I put them in the tank. As they settle the tank gets dosed block by block.

Haven't had an issue since 2008.

PS. Do not breathe the stuff. It is a fine dusty granule. The dust will
get you, and it is nasty!

I'm going to make a run to RK after work, see what it is here.
Bought mine at Lowe's last night, normally Lowe's/HD/Walmart/RK are within .50bg around here.
