I just acquired a 7mm WBY mag. Never loaded for it before. I have a .280 rem so have some 7mm 140g nosler bt and ab I use for it. But afraid they’rea little light. If availability wasn’t an issue I would be experimenting with 150 or 160 accubond. But…..

Building a (“long range” hunting rifle)
500 yard max on mainly whitetail

#1 - Favorite grain?

#2 - what bullet? Preferably available?

I’ve never been a huge hornady fan but it’s probably because I’ve never had to shoot them. Looked at some Barnes but their load data seems pretty lazy for a weatherby

6624141106 since I’m new and private message isn’t available if it’s easier

Thanks

140s work great in a 7mm Wea. I have shot a lot of deer with them. You can probably get close to 3400fps or more.

I have had a 7mm Weatherby for about 25 years.

I have used mine primarily to hunt whitetails but I have shot a couple of antelope and a few mule deer with it as well.

I have always used RL22. I have had good results with the 160 Nosler Partition, the 154 Hornady and 140 Ballistic Tip, Accubond and Partition. They all work very well on the animals I have used this rifle on.

Enjoy your new rifle!

For what it’s worth, I run the 160 accubonds out of an STW. It puts the whitetails down right now. I think they would work well for about anything you’d ever want to hunt with that round.

I tend to go on the heavier side…160-175 gr bullets for my 7mm Wby and 7mm Rem mags. I’ve had good results with H4831, IMR 7828 and Retumbo.
Specific bullets include the 160 Accubond, 160 Partition, 160 Grand Slam, 160 Hot Core, 160 Deep Curl (discontinued), 168 Long Range Accubond, 168 Match King and Nosler Custom Competition (targets only), 175 Partition.

My 7 Wby MK V:
120’s @ 3650
140’s @ 3400
150’s @ 3250
160’s @ 3200

All of these loads are 1/2 moa or better. I cut my barrel back to 24”.

Throttle fixes everything. If it doesn't fix the problem, it’ll end the suspense.

What powder do you like for 140s and 160s?

On what rifle action? Barrel twist rate could be a factor in bullet selection if the gun was built in Garmany. 1x12 IIRC, 9-9.5 if made here.
