I can literally see that playing out in Elmer Fudd cartoon fornat in my head 🤣

This guy was maybe 5'6'', worked for a insect exterminator co, looked like a long haired hippy. He was a turkey killing fool but it caught up with him, got caught poaching and got in trouble. State had him also pay for bird to be mounted, which my buddy got to do.

4 bore.

Here is a picture of a friend firing the same rifle with a light charge of powder (no, I am not kidding) What I zeroed the gun with was a charge 45% more than what this man is firing.

JFC... why not just take a cannon and put a stock on it? 🤣🤣🤣

Was that actually used hunting? Given you sighted it in, I am guessing there was some intent there... at least until he fired it 😂

A friend bought a Ruger #1 chambered in 416 Remington. The recoil was nasty. He sold it pretty quickly.

For X-mas at age 12 my father got me 350 Remington 600. With an 18 inch barrel and 250 grain hand loads it kicked like a mule. Over 50 years later that thing is still no fun to shoot.

Weatherby Mark V, German manufacture, 378 Wby. Factory 300 grain. Very light rifle. Actually saw stars because of the recoil. Shot a 470 double same day. That 378 was the worst by far.

first deer rifle my parents bought me was a savage synthetic stocked 270, 4 shots was about all I could handle with my shoulder turning purple. Just getting into deer hunting and guns I swore off long action rifles for years due to it being uncomfortable to shoot.
2nd experience was hot 45/70 405 loads my buddy recommended it was book safe but pulled the trigger and that hard plastic butt pad made my arm numb. I unloaded the 15 remaining rounds.

There is a chance I replied to this thread a decade ago, but I'm not going to read 16 pages to find out so this may be a repeat.

An 870 Super mag firing a 3 1/2" turkey load. If that is what I need to kill a turkey with, I don't want to hunt turkey.

WAAAAAY back in 1976 I picked up one of the recently re-introduced Marlin 1895's used. This version was only made one year so not many have seen it. That version had a straight grip with the 22" barrel and 1/2 mag tube. The front sight was in a dovetail instead of a ramp and the buttplate was curved and made of hard plastic.

The guy I bought it from gave me a few 500 gr handloads. I was 19 and thought I was tough, but those loads, in that rifle, nearly made me cry.

I was 14…pointing a single shot 10 ga of my neighbor’s with some sort of turkey load….was sitting on a five gallon bucket….pulled the trigger….and then I wasn’t.

Also tried some 3.5” buckshot in my SBE….only tried it once and gave the balance of the box to a friend.

I'm like JMR40, I may have posted many years ago. I had only shot a BR rifle other than rimfires and a friend gifted to me with a Weatherby Mark 5 in 300 Weatherby. I put it in the bags and shot it like my BR rifle-free recoil. Put a very bad cut on my eye that needed 4 stitches and of course the rifle fell to the concrete floor surrounding the bench. Not the hardest recoiling rifle that I have shot, but first and last hunting rifle free recoil.

Full factory load 458 Winchester Magnum in a Model 70. One shot only. Not my rifle it was a dream gun of a friend of mine. Same range trip he fired it twice and put it away. He never shot it again and sold it 2 years later.

Bdl ss in 375 ultra with no scope got my attention. Maybe 7.5 pounds with full house hot loaded 300g A frames. Seriously wonder how many rounds before my retinas would detach. Fast sharp hard recoil. Made my 375 ruger seem easy.

As a kid it was a single shot H&R 12 gauge with no recoild pad and 3" lead 1&7/8th ounce Winchester super XX magnums. I got my first goose with that 5 pound single shot and 3" lead xx #2s. They were directly overhead and the recoil knocked me the rest of the way over but the bruises healed and the goose smoked up nice for Christmas.

My friend teased me about it until he borrowed the gun and it did the same to him. I'd convinced him the Active rounds would kick less than low brass because they were no brass. They were still 3" mag 1&7/8ths lead. He still acusses me of having reloaded it. In his mind the power is still always determined by brass lenght. Full length old brass cased rounds scared him to death.

A Remington 7400 in .270 that I bought for my dad. Did not fit me. Three 3 shot groups from the bench. Nine rounds total. I had a recoil head ache that lasted all afternoon. Same time, I had a Savage 7 rem Mag that I could shoot all afternoon with zero discomfort...

Benelli SBE3 with 2.5 ounce tss turkey loads is a handful. Even with a steadygrip stock.

My 7600 carbine 35 whelen with full house 225 grain loads is a handful and a half. That's a light rifle.

I don't load my .45-70 hot enough to worry about anymore. I used to load 425 grain casts hot enough it would rattle the teeth in my skull and almost put me on my butt. I'm surprised I haven't blown that Marlin apart.
