Mom used to be able to describe the weather and what she was wearing. They got the news after church. Everything stopped. They just huddled up to the radio and kept listening until it was time for bed.
Dad had a big Zenith floor radio in his room. He'd been staying up late for several years listening to the BBC and Hitler's speeches out of Berlin. He'd seen all this coming like a slow moving freight train. He knew war was coming and he and his brothers were going to be in it. It scared the pi$$ out of him. Despite this, the attack caught him off guard. Not even Hitler knew the raid was coming, and he was more worried about Europe. It was a shock.
Every Dec 7 I have to decide whether to watch TORA TORA TORA or PEARLY HARBOR. I was three years and four months old on that day in 1941. PJ

Our forefathers did not politely protest the British. They did not vote them out of office, nor did they impeach the king, march on the capitol or ask permission for their rights. ----------------They just shot them. MOLON LABE
one of the most sobering sites I've ever experienced, was being able to take the VIP tour of Pearl Harbor usually put on for dignitaries.. was able to do so due to family connections at the top level with the military in Hawaii... when I was on active duty, and visiting my folks for the Christmas holidays.
The crown jewel of that humbling experience, was the Arizona Memorial, that is elevated across the hull of the Ship. you could walk across the deck, and not get your belt buckle wet. you can see the oil still seeping up from the hull of the ship, and knowing there are 1100 men just below you in their final resting place....
I pray this nation NEVER forgets.

My dad was in the navy, stationed at Bainbridge Island Naval base in WA when it happened. He was a radio operator and on duty when all hell broke loose. He was alone in the radio shack and the calls were coming in much faster than he could handle them. He stuck his head out the door and yelled for help. The closest man was a junior officer who immediately called the base commander and they had the base on full alert within 15 min.

It's not over when you lose. It's over when you quit.
I don't know why a Pearl Harbour thread would trigger a memory like this. Or even be linked to it in my noggin at this moment.

Guess I'm just trying to say the vast majority of American sheeple would not know very much about Pearl Harbor. But alot of em could tell you the "importance" of Jay Z and Beyonce....
Right about now, wily old FDR is already informed (due to the Japanese code having been broken) that the Japanese fleet is on its way to Pearl Harbor, and is discussing plans to maximize the damage inflicted on our assets and personnel on the Island.
