Sure would appreciate some help. I'm new to this forum. Did a search for 35/284 load data but came up wanting. Will use caliber on Alabama whitetail deer. Rifle is a Browning a-bolt micro medallion that was a 7/08 but has been bored out to 35/284 with zeiss 1.5 X 4.5. Working with factory clip/magazine so long bullets may be a problem. I sure would apprecaite your favorite load recipe.
Thanks.
Regards,
Cahaba

if i had to guess i would look at rem 350 mag loads. the 284 is virtually identical in charge weight for rl19 and 748. i load for both and these two powders. i dont know how the bullet weight affects wildcats but i would imagine them being very close.
enjoy. it is a smokin' round. devastating on the wildlife <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />.
try the hornady sp's in 200 and 250 for plinkin' and deer sized stuff. very accurate and inexpensive. the 225 nosler partition is perfect for everything that walks...........

35 Whelen data should be a good reference for you.

The .284 case has nearly identical capacity to the 30-06.

I've got a Hodgdon manual that lists one set of data for 30-06 and 30-284. So, 35 Whelen and 35-284 should be pretty close.

Interesting round. Did you get someone to build it here in Birmingham or did you have to get it built elsewhere?

wpm,

It was already bored and chambered when I bought it. Don't know who did the work but it is a nice job. Performs well. Just been looking for some favorite load/s from anyone who shoots this caliber. My main use is whitetail deer hunting. Thought someone might have a load that has been outstanding on deer.

Cahaba.

Yeah..... That is a little strange.

Where did you buy the rifle? Gun Show I imagine.

PS: Check here for some load data. As with anything else found on the Internet, take with a grain of salt!

i am at work so i can't give you the load data, but i built one several years ago on a 700 action. went to see my bubby in south carolina to test it on their deer. i touched the trigger four times that week and had four deer to skin. the only problem i had is in the short action the heavier bullets need to go in deeper, sometimes down onto the ogive so it isn't gripped to well. i'll post you my data after i get home.

wpm,

Not a gun show but a dealer in Texas through Gun List. It was about three years ago. He got it on a trade. It's an all original a-bolt II, except for the caliber.
Thanks for the web site. Good information.

Thanks hm2. I look forward to your data.
I have the same problem you do. My clip/magazine is short so bullets have to be seated deep. Thinking about using hard cast flat nose bullets. I here they are awesome killers. Talked to a man on WV who shoots them in his Ruger Super Redhawk 44 mag for deer. Says they are all one shot, dead in their tracks, kills.

sorry for the delay, but i got swamped at work and have not been at the computer. i built this gun in 98 and it worked well. i got to tell you when i work up a load that meets my criteria,i am happy and don't waste time or components on additional testing. i use winchester cases and federal 210match primers. the bullet is sierras #2850, a 225 grain spitzer and it is seated to an oal of 2.825. i started with 43 grains of imr 4895 and topped out at 52 grains. i settled on 51.5 grains because the accuracy was very good and the average velocity was 2496 fps. in fact the accuracy of this bullet in my gun is very good and one of the larger groups went all the way to .805 at 100 yards, as you can see well within a minute of deer. when shot all of the deer took less than 2 steps ,but one , he actually took 20. be careful with bullet placement as it tears them up if you hit the shoulder joint. hope this helps you somewhat.
