Thanks for all the help and direction,

Don't forget that CVA will sell you a youth stock really cheap straight from the website. That will help the little ones down the road.
New V2 may have removable spacers from what I have read.

I have three CVA rifles, an Optima, a Wolf and a Scout 44'mag. When CVA first started out you couldn't give me one. Cheaply made, soft parts, but these were an effort to cash in on the muzzle loading boom.
My Optima shoots 2.5 MOA with 90 grains of BH209 (volume) and the Honesty Bore Rider. Wolf uses 70 grains and a card wad and a TC Maxi ball. Still working with it.
Good stuff these days.
Goal next year is to get both shooting well with lead bullets and my old DuPont black.

Based on what I read here I bought an Optima V2 with the Nitride finish. Just got back from the range and wanted to thank everyone for their comments. It shot 250 grain Powerbelts and two Hornady sabot bullets (240 and 300 grain) really well with both 777 pellets and White Hot pellets. I used two 50 grain pellets for all shots. All combinations were 1" to 2" at 100 yards. This was my first try with a muzzleloader. I was impressed.

I just set up a meet with a forum member from another forum to buy a CVA Optima V2. Decided to go that route instead of the slug gun for my grandson to use on federal property with firearms restrictions to include lead free ammo. It is easier to find lead free bullets for a muzzleloader than a shotgun and recoil can be manipulated easier.

If you’re going lead free Powder Valley had the Barnes .429 dia 200gr XPB the other day. They definitely work at lower charges.

Got a good number of the Hornady Monoflex, plenty for the federal land hunt. In the long run probably use the Speer .429 270 gr. Deep Curls since I have 150 of them.

Ive owned quiet a few of them and they were all accurate but to me they felt like carrying around a 2x4..
In most of mine I shot either a 240 or 300 gr XTP with 90-100 gr of pyrodex rs or 2f 777..

Making black powder smoke is a great thing..
