I haven't looked at cameras in years but need to get one for my girls. They want to YouTube, etc. so it would need good video and audio capabilities.

This is not something I want to invest more than $500 in.

Initially.

Crutchfield is the 'LL Bean' of the electronics world

Or Doug at Cameraland NY'

This Canon is a good start point.....along with changing lenses later on (link)

As mentioned....cell phones are very compact & take amazing pics

My IPhone 12 takes amazing pics as shown 'out the back door'

I don't own any but have read enough reviews to suggest the Panasonic Lumix line of cameras ie. the smaller point and shoot cameras. They get good ratings, have image stabilization, are known for good video and will fit your price point. Canon has some in the same range but from what I've seen, they are not as well built as the Lumix cameras.

Something in this lineup might work.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?q=panasonic%20lumix%20cameras&filters=fct_category%3Apoint_shoot_digital_cameras_8612

A lot of reviews on the youtube for just about any camera you want.

Not the best vid. and from 2021 but gives you an idea of what to look for.

My comment about the Canons not as well made had to do with the point and shoot cameras, not the Canon Rebel T7 Tikka referred to.

Here is another option:
Sony ZV-1:

Again, don't own one but has good reviews.

Thank you SBTCO.

I’ve had good luck with the Panasonics in the past. May go back to that.

My instagram, DoubleHKnives, is almost exclusively shot now from my cell phone. I use my iPhone 12 Pro Max and the results are outstanding. Because Apple is now, what, 14 Pro Max?, the 12 can probably be purchased @ under $500

Joel (Doug's brother) did us an Olympus package for $839... It was two lenses, filters, extra cards etc. Smaller than a standard SLR. EM-10 model IIRC. Maybe $600 with only one lens... Not sure...

I would not be happy with that low resolution.

Interesting point... it is a high MP camera... maybe Laura had the settings low or it got washed down a couple of times in the hosting sites (twice). Not really sure.

EDIT: "Looks like the Bluetooth and backup process drops things in half."... Google took another bite... Then Postimage."

That looks fine to me. But I don't especially look for perfection but rather pleasing. Seem's in everything we do, many people get caught up chashing perfection that most people can't even see!

Someone somewhere mentioned upgrade in a camera. Something I found out myself is many, myself especially, upgrade but are actually pretty clueless what our present camera can actually do! Now an upgrade for me is more pixel but my D7000 has more than I think I'll ever need! Great photo'sare taken by great photographersn not necessarily gread cameras. My last film camera was a Nikon f5, cost me I think it was $1600 and I took as good of photo's with my old worn out FG than I did with it. Should have spent the money on film. My all time favorite picture was taken with a Yashica 635 twin lens camera I got used for $125! Should have bought more film than that F5!

Thats one of those photo terms I don't understand. Resolution, whats that mean. Photo looks fine to me and probably 90% of everyone else but someone comes up with it has low resolution!
