I'm looking for a 99 takedown barrel in 30-30, 303 or 300 to have rebored. I'm planning on shortening it and will definitely refinish it. Doesn't need to have the lug. Anyone got one they'd part with?

I'd prefer full or medium weight. Length doesn't matter, planning on making it 18.5" to 20" ( I haven't decided yet ).

Hmm, I'm not sure. I'm going to have it rebored to a 38-55.

I was originally going to attempt a takedown octagon barrel. Was planning on leveling the receiver by putting a level on the bolt, then making the top flat of the octagon barrel level with the bolt and finally marking where the notch goes on the underside of the barrel and cut it. However I'm not sure that's a great idea and it might be better to just fit a round takedown barrel.

ya my 303 mod H barrel would be pretty thin with a 38 bore, but being a rimmed cartridge you would not loose much if any on the rechamber.

norm The only spare barrel I have around is a 22HP. But it's got decent rifling and would be almost see through punched out to .38.

I've got a half oct half round 38-55 barrel shortened to 18" but it's earmarked for a buddy's rifle. Started life as a 303.
I've got a 300 24" takedown barrel that measures .632" @20" length, which would give you .125"+ wall thickness after a rebore. Westfield address.
Since all you'd need to make a takedown barrel out of a solid frame barrel is a cut on the bottom of it, how about-
99R post war 300 barrel 24" measures .627" @ 20" length, which leaves you .125" wall thickness after rebore

A 99-A, .375 Win. brl at 20" is ~.635". I don't how the .375 brl steel compares to earlier brls.

that only leaves you .0625 wall, the oct barrel would give you more wall.
