What kind of recoil pad do you guys have on your GG’s and are your rifles scoped (adding weight)? memtb

The first time I shot off the bench with a Roy Weatherby styled rifle stock.
Monte carlo with a "negative slope" that UNSLAPPS your face.
Nice semi-beaver tail fore end & squishy recoil pad.
OH yeah, that Roy was on to something!

6” Colt in 357? Full house 125’s are super loud. Recoil is fairly easy.

Browning A-bolt .338 Winchester mag. Very mild compared to most other rifles I have. It just fits me good. I bought it about 1986 and have shot it more than all my other rifles combined.

A customer brought a Weatherby Mark V in 460 Weatherby and a Ruger M-77 in 458 Winchester Magnum to the range where I worked. The range was rated for 50 BMG, so we shot them indoors on the 25-yard range.

The 458 (500-grain bullet at about 2,100 fps) was much worse than the 460 (500-grain bullet at 2,700 fps). The 460 had the classic Weatherby stock and a brake. Recoil was heavy but not as sharp as expected, and it seemed to last a lot longer than I expected. The barrel just kept rising until it was about 45 degrees in the air.

A 416 Weatherby Mag that a friend has... it was surprisingly not terrible. I've shot stuff a lot smaller than kicked worse than that.

It still wasn't something I'd shoot for fun, but it was a lot better than I was expecting.

It is a toss up for me. I bought a 30-338 that had a brake on it (first gun I ever shot with a brake) Shooting 180 bullets, I thought I had messed up loading for it, but the chrono told me I was spot on (based on the guy's load data he gave me when I bought the rifle)

The other was a 300 PRC shooting a 245 bullet. This rifle has a can on it (first time I had shot a rifle with a can) I was expecting to get hit but it was about like a 260.

Yeah, that's what I like about it. My two are 8 pounds plus, so they aren't lightweight rifles, but they give no noticeable recoil.

My LVSF 17 had such vicious recoil, that I had to put a Limbsaver pad on it. Now it's like shooting a BB gun.

My LVSF has a B&C stock with a Pachmayr decelerator on it...worked so good I didnt even have to install a muzzle brake!

A .257 Roberts 760 that I bought for my son. He didn’t hunt, so I sold it. For as nuts as you guys are about 760’s and the Roberts, I should have kept that one.

I have a Merkel 140AE double rifle in .450-400 3" Nitro Express. Just the name seems like it should hit hard on both ends. But it is well balanced, heavy enough, fits me like a good shotgun, and I don't have to think when I shoot it. I just shoot. It certainly moves me around, but it doesn't hurt. I've used it while shooting elk, cape buffalo, and moose. No pain, and very effective.

My model 700 Remington 7mm magnum with a synthetic stock. It’s a cream puff to shoot and kicks about like a 243. I can see hits in the scope. All of this is after I added weight to the front and back of the stock. Sucker weighs 13lbs. That is my tree stand gun and if I have to walk far I take other guns.

The added weight of the scope helps mitigate felt recoil a bit…..my rifle has factory pad, but is dressed-up with a 1-4 Vortex!

Using a recoil calculator, the recoil on mine is almost identical to the recoil of my wife’s rifle….but her rifle/load has a faster recoil impulse! Recoil impulse speed seems to affect felt recoil quite a bit! Maybe different powders (burn rates) affect the felt recoil! And, of course stock fit! memtb

Browning X-Bolt in .30-06. Maybe it's stock fit, but recoil with most ammo is surprisingly mild.

350 Legend I just got. I was sick of the damned 12ga slugs, so I bought a 350L for the Encore. I didn't know what to expect. The thing shoots like a BB gun. Killed 2 deer with it in the past week and they were both DRT. I'm extremely happy with it.

I had the same experience with my boat paddle .300. All I ever hear about is how bad that is going to kick. Compared to some of the other stuff I shoot it is downright civilized.

Excactly! Although mine is a Ruger #1 s/s laminated stock and is a bit heavy. Other pleasant surprises in the recoil department for me are my Tikka T3 Superlite in 7 Mag(with a Limbsaver Pad) and my S &W 500 mag revolver. Both more pleasant to shoot than most would think.

I didn’t comment on the worst recoil thread, seeing it was an ancient thread, but since I’m typing, I’ll relay that here…

The old fella got me started in reloading, had an old double barrel 12 that he insisted I had to fire…both barrels at the same time! He failed to mention these loads of his were pretty stout. On the second attempt at this, I got my finger across both triggers just right (while apparently not having the buttplate firmly into my shoulder)and they both went off. Holy Mother of God!!!!!!! That thing kicked the living $hit outta me.(maybe even some dead $hit too). Eyes watered, nose ran, swore at him for 5 minutes while rubbing my shoulder, all the while he’s doubled over laughing at me. 10 minutes later he picks up my Glock 20 and shoots it while I’m loading another gun. He was a single action revolver guy, and he used the tried and true weak hand thumb over grip…not good! Slide barks a big chunk of skin off his left thumb! Now I’m laughing, saying karma buddy, we’re even!
