Been on the hunt for a rifle like the very first one I bought with my own money. A Glenfield Model 60 with the squirrel stamped on the stock. Haven't been able to find any under $300 that weren't just completely trashed. Man, the model 60 was always the "cheap" .22. Found a very nice 10/22 for $199, was tempted to buy it just based on price, but I passed.

How much are nice Model 60's going for in your neck of the woods? I'll head to the Reno gun show next weekend to see what I can find.

Any JM stamped Marlin are high will never be made again. 300 to 350 around here.

I think I have one stamped with that squirrel, it saw very little use. I'll check in the safes.

What stores have you been checking?

Check the pawn shops. It seems as though every pawn shop I have ever stopped in had 3 or 4 model 60's on the shelf.

I know that it is not exactly what you posted that your were looking for but you may want to take a look at one of these, a friend bought one for a pick-up gun for his hired hand and so far it has performed flawlessly.

It sure looks like a clone of a model 60 to me. - not a bad outfit for only $139.

Nice looking m60 but WTF. I can remember when they were $99.

When we get them in here in the shop we typically put $130-$150 on them, maybe $175 for a cherry one. Haven't seen one in a year or two though. That was my first gun with my own money as well. $45 brand new at Woolco.

60’s had always been cheaper than 10-22’s.

Guess that’s all changed.

Have had both. Prefer 10-22’s, especially tricked out with after market stuff. Not much you can do with a ‘60, just shoot it. They are accurate.

My opinion also. 10-22's can be made to shoot lights out but ......................................................... the dinero can get pricy. lol

I have one in nice condition. But NW Nevada is a bit of a hike from here.

It feels a LOT slimmer than a 10/22.

A buddy had a 10/22 when we were teenagers that was pretty cool. Folding wire stock and double banana clips.

I saw a stainless Marlin 60 not long ago for $299 and it was gone the next day

I like them, I have a ducks unlimited edition model 60 in stainless, given to me when my dad died, I was told he never fired it.

my lgs probably had 5 on the used rack this past weekend, a couple still had the stickers on the stock.

Heck, the sold me a 99, walnut version of 60, for 100 bucks.

Local big city ffl has at least two used model 60s, both under $300 - though they are used, both are JM. And about a dozen 10/22 s. But No one should buy a $200 10/22 just to throw another $600 at it to be comparable to an out of the box vintage model 60.

Just, keep looking. If you're only looking online, you're going to see inflated prices.

Yeah, I do like the slim profile.

But the 10-22 mag is much easier and more convent to use than the tube mag.

aethertech: I own a BUNCH of Ruger 10/22's in various models. My factory stock heavy barrel versions of the Ruger 10/22's all shoot as well OR "better" than any of the Marlin Model 60's I have owned in the past.
Notice I said "owned in the past" - the Marlin Model 60 does not hold a candle to the convenience, reliability and looks of the Ruger 10/22's - IME.
Back in the mid-1960's I and my friend were shooting his dads Marlin Model 60 in the back yard when that Marlin Model 60 went full auto for a full tube of ammo!
Scared us youngsters a bit - his father later mentioned he had "worked on the trigger some".
So I guess use caution in that regard.

Speaking of heavy barrel 10/22’s...
I should have bought that red, white, and blue Ruger “Race Gun” from Gander Mountain years ago. Some kind of U.S, Olympic team special edition, or something like that.
$700 seemed like such an extraordinary amount for a 22.

The mag was always a huge selling point on the 10/22 for me.


I still think of the Marlin 60 as being a $100 rifle, but I admit I get stuck in the past sometimes Every 60 I ever dealt with was reliable and accurate enough for their intended purpose.

There have been over 11 million model 60's manufactured so there can't be too much wrong with them. They were a reasonably priced rifle that performed well.
