That's good to hear since I just ordered an X-Bolt hunter in .30-06.

I was pleasantly surprised when I shot a buddies 375hh in a Mark x rifle. No harsh jab but a steady push. The next shot I just let it rest on my shoulder and recoil was not bad at all. Edk

Husquevarna 7 Mag (see my bad recoil post!). As I said there, I have never liked the 7 Mag since my initial harsh experience, but after working on this one, I of course test fired it. Not only did it put 5 in one ragged hole at 85 yards, the recoil was negligible. Or felt that way.

I tried to buy it off the client, but he wouldn't sell.

Dunno if it was good or bad but a learning experience. At the time, I had a Ruger M77 in 7x57 I was sighting in. Guy set up next to me had the same rifle, only chambered to the 30-06. He was having a hell of a bad time trying to even get on paper so as I had to wait for my rifle to cool down a bit, it was about 110 in the shade that day so it took a while. I offered to help him out which he accepted. Two rifles, both weighing within ounces of each other and the difference in recoil was definitely noticeable. That was the first time I'd ever shot two rifles of the same make with similar weights to compare recoil between two cartridges. His with factory and mine with very warmish hand loads. I'm sorry I ever sold that 7x57 Ruger. A bit on the heavy side but shot nice groups.

Cut an inch off the butt of my M700/.270 Win and installed a $5 gun-show Pachmayr - F325B Deluxe Field Recoil Pad.

For years I hunted everything from coyotes to grouse to elk with my trusty and extremely accurate .338WM. I shot it so much year around that the recoil never mattered and it had the added benefit of making everything under the .338 very tolerable to shoot. I’ve been doing a similar thing with the Smith model 69 in .44 mag and shooting it a lot! When I switch over to my 9mm or 10mm the recoil is akin to a .22 since I’m used to shooting full house loads in the .44. I do spend probably 10-1 dry firing versus live fire ensuring that my technique is unchanged and smooth.

I have sighted in several of my friend’s .338’s a Browning A-Bolt and a Safari grade Model 70….both had more felt recoil shooting the same loads which is a stock design/ergonomics issue.

6.5 creedmoor is probably about as good as recoil gets if one is looking for a cartridge that has a lot of capability combined with not a lot of shoulder punishment

I like the way you operate! Pretty difficult to top a .338 Win. as a “do it all” cartridge! memtb

The first time I shot a 17 Hornet and 17 Fireball. It made a big gun noise, but where was the recoil? I saw my bullet make a hole in the paper. Fun to shoot!

Nice guy at the range offered to let me crack off a couple with his Barrett .50, prone no less. Recoil was a mere shuffle.

He was apparently pretty well-to-do based on his vehicle, and because he left his brass lay.

Kimber 8400 .300wsm. Felt recoil was less than most 30-06's I've owned.

I recently bought a Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan in .375 Ruger. I am pleasantly surprised at the recoil. I was expecting much more.

several come to mind...

1. 358 Winchester bolt action.

2. 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser, with a 160 gr RN and 30 grains of IMR 4198

3. 257 Weatherby, was expecting much more...

4. Using Cast Bullet Load data, yet its still very effective.

Toss up between a Kimber 84M 308 or an Adirondack 6.5 w/suppressor…..I was surprised at how comfortable the light 308 was, and the lack or recoil in that Adirondack suppressed was more than expected…..223 bolt guns suppressed are the same way….you can watch your own trace. Lol

Any of the Montanas I've shot. It must be the stock design.
