Who is a good smith to get this fixed?
M16 type replacement? Sako type?

If you have a 300 Savage or 257 Roberts, Numrichs has reproduction extractors.

Let me know which direction you take and how it works. I've got a 1948 vintage 722 that I rebarreled to 7mm08 back in the mid-eighties when the 708 became a commercial cartridge and have used it extensively now for 35+ years. I worry about the extractor at times.

Because of their rarity to find a factory extractor I've modified the bolt to accept a regular 700 extractor and rivet because that's what the customer wanted.

Ahlman's in Morristown, MN, lists the installation of a Sako extractor in their rifle gunsmith list of services.

It happens Jeff, I knew a guy who had a 700 that he bought it used and it wouldnt function. Turned out to be part of a cartridge rim stuck under the extractor lip. Worked like a champ after he picked it out

My 725 SA (originally .244, now .260, broke it's extractor. Numrich sent me one that I don't know WTF it was for- maybe a .222., tho I specified caliber. Probably a USPS reject parts handler.... for that and other reasons, I don't much care for dealing with Numrich, unless I must. Try Jack First in SD, tho. Good people.

I was informed by several people here a 700 extractor would not work in the 725. Got two from Brownells (I think), just to try.

The 700 part works fine, at least in my rifle. Not a hick-up. Don't believe everything you are told on the innanet. smile

Glad to read that a there's a smith that does this work!

Remington did it for a while back in the 60's.

I’m thinking that the Numrich link is some kind of weird cataloging issue. I see no reason a 300 or 257 extractor shouldn’t work on any .473 case head.

The riveted 700 extractor can be installed in a 721/722/725 bolt. I've done a couple and I'm not even a gunsmith,....yes, it's that simple.
